The Quartermaines:
- After Sonny and Carly leave, AJ goes to the bar, where the bartender won't
serve him. Hannah offers to drive him home, having witnessed the whole scene.
Rae arrives and asks them who lives in Penthouse 4 (Johnny and Benny wouldn't
let her in, earlier), and wonders at their responses. AJ tells Hannah that he'll
get a room with a mini bar, so she leaves him there. (4/3)
- When he gets home, AJ goes a few rounds with his family over the fight at
the grill. Alan and Monica are angry about his drunken behavior, and while they
argue over how to deal with him, he goes to spend the night in the boathouse.
(4/4)
- Upstairs, meanwhile, Emily and Elizabeth take a quiz: "Are you ready for sex?"
They talk about Emily's relationship with Juan, as well as Elizabeth's fears about
Lucky. Emily is still convinced that everything will be the same as it was, but
Elizabeth has her doubts. (4/4)
- As the Qs continue to fight about AJ, Rae arrives. She's hoping that Edward,
a past business associate, can help her where Sonny's concerned. She and Alan
exchange a look. The family gives her their opinion of Sonny in return. Later,
Monica and AJ agree that he should move out. (4/5)
- As Jax realizes Edward's taken one of his companies, he pays Edward a visit
and promises to take back what is his, and more. Edward asks Ned to help ELQ prepare
for battle with Jax. Ned refuses, telling Edward that he'll have to deal with
what he started on his own. (4/6)
- Unaware that Luke and Laura have finally caught up with Lucky, Elizabeth still
worries. Emily tries to comfort her, and to reassure Juan, who's convinced he'll
never become a singer due to lack of funds. (4/7)
- Ned tries to stay out of the line of fire as Jax and Edward prepare for battle.
(4/11)
- A jealous Monica sees Alan and Rae talking together. (4/11)
- At Kelly's, Emily again comforts Elizabeth. (4/12)
- While AJ strikes a bargain with Jax, Edward tries to buy Ned out of ELQ. Later,
Edward turns Emily down when she asks for funding for Juan's career. But Alexis
convinces Ned to become Eddie Maine for one night. (4/12)
I. Rae's Questions Lead to a Discussion of Addiction (4/3)
Hannah: "I'm not addicted to Sonny."
A.J.: "Yeah. And I'm not addicted to alcohol."
Hannah: "Look, Sonny and I are over. Yes, I care about him. All right?"
A.J.: "Mm-hmm."
Hannah: "Just like you care about Carly. I saw the look on your face when she
fell to the floor."
A.J.: "Yeah, well, you know, as fond as I am of insights, I've had my quota for
the week."
What, Hannah actually thought Rae was somebody undercover or something? Give
me a break. She shot AJ a look when he told her about Sonny.
While I actually enjoyed, a little bit, seeing AJ throw his attention into
Hannah, the thought that he would actually pursue a relationship with her seriously
was beyond me. Apparently, thought, that's where we're headed. At this point,
however, she wasn't playing the flirting game; she pointed at him to get his hand
off of her at one point.
II. Is That Your Final Answer? (4/4)
Elizabeth: "Ok. 'If you answered no to the last question, you're not ready
for prime time in the love department.'"
Emily: "I answered yes."
Elizabeth: "Ok, listen. According to Karen McAlpine, who lives in Detroit,
Michigan, who knows nothing about you and has never met you, you are ready to
get busy with Juan."
Emily: "Well, see, we haven't exactly said the words to each other. But I
can't imagine feeling anything that I feel with Juan with anybody else. And I'm
sure that if lucky walked in this door right now, he would take you into his arms,
and he would kiss you, and he would tell you how he missed you every single second,
and he would hold you like he was never going to let you go, which he never will."
Elizabeth: "You honestly think so?"
Emily: "Absolutely. Now, me and Juan? I just don't know about that."
Then, after the scene below with AJ:
Emily: "Oh, god, I'm never going to get out of here."
Elizabeth: "You know what? I used to think that, too, but I made it, and in the
meantime, you've got Juan and you've got that window, and does that door lock?"
Emily: "Supposedly, the key is lost."
Elizabeth: "Well, now, Emily, you're an enterprising young woman. Surely you could
fix that."
Emily: "What about you and lucky?"
Elizabeth: "I'm afraid to dream that far ahead."
Emily: "He's going to come back, Elizabeth. I can feel it."
III. The Prodigal Son Returns, Only to Be Thrown Out (4/4)
Lila: "Oh. Sometimes it pays to just sit quietly and read. That was just
beautiful, dear."
Monica: "Well, thank you. We declared an armistice from all of our problems tonight.
We've had a lovely meal."
Alan: "Great band."
Monica: "And a nice little table in the corner."
Alan: "I particularly liked the fact that the most beautiful woman in the room
was my wife."
Monica: "Oh, thank you."
We cut from the teenagers upstairs pondering love to the great shot of Alan
and Monica dancing in as Lila watched. What a contrast.
Edward: "Yes. Yes, any second now the prodigal son will be delivered to our
front door. Now, we've all agreed as of tonight this disgrace ends. He is out
of here."
Emily: "You know how some families kind of have a grandfather clock that chimes
in the middle of the night? This would be our version."
A.J.: "Nice p.j.s. You know, they almost make you look human."
Monica: "Don't you start. I've had it with you raging out of control around
here. This is not an upholstered drunk tank, A.J. It's a home. And until you respect
it and yourself, I want you out of the house."
Alan: "That is not a solution."
Monica: "Neither is enabling him, which is what got us here."
Edward: "Now, look, A.J. First, you robbed us of Jason, right? And tonight,
you have destroyed any possibility of our ever getting little Michael back in
this house. You self-destruct if you want to. But do you have to take the rest
of the family down with you?"
Monica: "You came at Carly with a bottle?"
A.J.: "No, I went at Sonny with a bottle. Carly barely got clipped. You know how
she is. She's a drama queen."
Alan: "A.J., would you like to try and go to a rehab?"
A.J.: "Oh, trust me, anyone who hears my story will think I deserve a drink."
Monica: "I would prefer you not walk ahead of him and make it easier for him
to destroy his life. I warned you that when he married Carly he'd start drinking
again. But you wouldn't listen, and being supportive of him now is making things
worse. Come on, I went through this with you, Alan. I learned. You cut your losses."
Alan: "Where would you have him go?"
Monica: "Not here. I mean, don't you see this family isn't helping him?"
Emily: "A.J., you're trying to scare us. I hate that."
A.J.: "Since when do you care about what I do? You know, I really don't give a
damn if I'm scaring or pleasing any of you. I'm living to please myself, ok?"
A.J.: "I've had it with all of you, including you, little sister. You know,
when Jason was around, you didn't care about me. Now he's gone, all of a sudden
you do? Please. You know what? It's like you said, mom. We need to be rid of each
other."
Monica: "That is manipulative bull."
Alan: "There's a difference between enabling and supporting, Monica."
Monica: "Well, which one encouraged him to marry Carly?"
Alan: "Look, he wanted to marry Carly. Believe it or not, he loves her."
I wonder. I never ever saw AJ loving Carly, save that little crush he had
on her back when she was with Tony. Certainly not in recent months. Does Alan
just have to believe this? That it would take losing the woman he loves to put
AJ back off the wagon? Or are we supposed to see AJ having lost the woman he loved
in vain?
IV. The Setting for Rae's Visit (4/5)
Emily: "Who are you cheating out this time?"
Edward: "Why do you sneak up on me like that? I have a very weak heart."
Edward: "Children should be seen and not heard."
Lila: "Oh, Edward, must you start the day by bullying poor Emily?"
Alan: "I just came from the boathouse. A.J.'s gone."
Edward: "Good riddance."
Alan: "Oh, that's really nice. You realize my son could have been drowned?"
Emily: "No, no, no, no. I was up all night. I didn't hear anything or see anything."
Edward: "Oh, there you have it, right? This little girl is still in high school,
right? How do you expect her to get an education if she is awake all night trying
to rescue her drunken bum of a brother?"
Alan: "Emily wouldn't have to be worried at all if my wife hadn't thrown him out
of the house."
Monica: "I wouldn't have had to throw him out of the house if he hadn't been driven
to drink by your father!"
Edward: "Oh, that's right. Blame me for your incompetence, if you must. The fact
remains that you have a teenage daughter who is neither a criminal nor a drunk,
and yet you don't pay any attention to her!"
Emily: "I get plenty of attention!"
Edward: "You do not! You run wild in the streets."
Monica: "I just want to know if you're sober enough to pack."
Alan: "You don't have to go."
Monica: "Yes, you do. I'm not going to have you living in this house until you
are sober."
Alan: "Monica, that is not your decision to make."
Monica: "If you want to enable him, you do it someplace else. But Edward happens
to be right. We have a teenager, and I won't have her living with this."
A.J.: "It works for me."
V. A Toast to ELQ (4/6)
Ned: "You want to drink champagne this early?"
Edward: "Oh, just a nip. Here. Congratulate me."
Edward: "Did he think I'd never heard of a dot-com?"
Edward: "Oh. It was a simple deal, very--very straightforward."
Ned: "No, it was a very complicated tech buyout in a red-hot market."
Edward: "Not if you know what you're doing."
Ned: "Which obviously you do."
Edward: "You see, you and your cousin wasted far too much time at E.L.Q. it's
my company. I need to run it."
Ned: "To the one-man show."
Edward: "I don't know what you mean."
Ned: "He never does."
Edward: "Why would you think I'd want to get some help from some would-be
musician, huh?"
Ned: "No, grandfather pulled this one off all by himself."
Jax: "Well, it was nice work. Congratulations."
Ned: "Champagne?"
Edward: "What are you congratulating me for?"
Ned: "He wants to hear you say it."
Edward: "Oh. It was nothing."
Jax: "It was mine."
Ned: "Which was the whole point. Right, grandfather?"
Edward: "Ned, why must you make everything so personal?"
Jax: "You should know, though, I always take back what's mine."
Ned: "He does."
Jax: "And more."
Edward: "Oh, Ned, just pray that Jax doesn't go after E.L.Q."
Ned: "You want to pray? Now?"
Ned: "Nice try."
Edward: "Wait, wait, wait, wait. What makes you think that this deal was just
about you?"
Ned: "Junior was a real disaster, wasn't he?"
Edward: "Oh, me--worse than even I could imagine."
Ned: "Didn't I tell you?"
Edward: "That's why I need you back at E.L.Q."
Ned: "How can I put this? Nope."
Edward: "Ned, if you cared one whit about this family--"
Ned: "I'd let you ruin my life?"
Edward: "What, you want Jax to come after E.L.Q.?"
Ned: "I wasn't the one who picked a fight with Jax. You were."
Edward: "Then you won't help us, right?"
Ned: "You're on your own."
Edward: "You ingrate!"
Ned: "Thank you."
Ned actually seemed impressed. He and Jax were in brown and black, while Edward
was in blue. Edward angrily slugged down the rest of his champagne after Ned left,
and I was still left hoping for that Jax-and-Ned-take-on-Edward storyline. Or
any true business storyline at all. This one, after all, would just go kaput after
a bit.
VI. Emily Has All the Answers (4/7)
Elizabeth: "I wonder if they're near him right now, when we're thinking about
him."
Emily: "Can you imagine the look on Lucky's face and how he's going to feel when
he sees them?"
Elizabeth: "Well, how he's going to feel about everything. I mean, he's been held
prisoner for almost a year. That has to have changed him."
Emily: "No. No matter what, lucky will always be lucky."
Elizabeth: "What if it doesn't fit anymore? You know, like the way we used to
know what the other was thinking without even saying anything? What if that's
not there?"
Emily: "Listen, Elizabeth, Lucky's going to walk in that door, he's going to look
at you, you're going to look at him, and you're going to realize that he loves
you just as much as you love him."
Emily: "So, have you started planning what you and lucky are going to do together
when he comes home?"
Elizabeth: "I have trouble imagining our first meeting."
Elizabeth: "Of course they're going to like each other. They have a lot in
common."
Emily: "Yeah, that is true. I mean, they have their music and--hey, what if lucky
works at L&B records? I mean, you know, that way they could kind of team up, lucky
and Juan. Lucky could write music, and Juan could sing. Or maybe they could do
it together. They could sing together. You know, lucky and Juan."
Juan: "Don't count on it."
Emily: "Why?"
Juan: "Any plans you have for me to be a singer, at the rate I'm going, I won't
have enough money to cut a demo until I'm 50."
Juan: "There's no way I'm letting Nikolas back my music career."
Emily: "Well, if you stay that stubborn, you're not going to have a singing career."
Emily: "But listen, grandfather is always looking for new business ventures
to invest in."
Juan: "An unknown singer?"
Emily: "Yeah. We could go to grandmother first. That's what we'll do. We'll go
to grandmother first. We'll tell her about it. She'll convince grandfather. And
there's no way that he's going to say no to her."
Elizabeth: "Yeah, and, hey, you've already got yourself a promoter."
VII. Emily Visits with Elizabeth (4/12)
Emily: "What if you and Nikolas get in a fight, you know, while you're going
to look for lucky, like, way out in the middle of nowhere?"
Elizabeth: "We won't."
Emily: "Yeah, but you and Nikolas haven't really been getting along, you know,
ever since that whole thing with Jason."
Elizabeth: "Nikolas and I are friends, and we both love lucky, and that's all
that matters."
Emily: "Maybe Luke and Laura will come home and lucky will just walk in with
them or--"
Elizabeth: "So, what's up at home?"
Emily: "Um--I'm sorry. I was just trying to help."
Elizabeth: "I know. But I know you have a lot to deal with, too, now, so--"
Emily: "Yeah. If it weren't for Juan, I don't know what I'd do. I'm just, you
know, mostly focusing on finding him a backer right now. It helps."
Elizabeth: "You'll find someone."
Emily: "And you're going to find lucky."
Elizabeth: "Thanks."
VIII. AJ Deals With Jax (4/12)
Jax: "Can I get you coffee?"
A.J.: "I'm sober. Don't worry."
Jax: "So, is that a yes or a no?"
A.J.: "All right, Jax. Why should I trust you? And don't say 'why not.'"
Jax: "Well, do you have any other offers?"
A.J.: "At the moment, no."
Jax: "So, what's the problem? I mean, this deal could change everything."
A.J.: "Just trying to picture the look on the old man's face."
Jax: "So, are you in?"
A.J.: "Sure, why not. Sounds like fun."
Jax: "That's the whole idea."
IX. Edward's Two-For-One Day at L&B (4/12)
Edward: "That all you do around here all day, just mutter?"
Ned: "You know, just because A.J. moved out of the house doesn't mean you
can come over here and badger me, ok?"
Edward: "I want you to do well, Ned. You're family."
Ned: "Can we just skip all that?"
Edward: "You obviously need some operating capital. So why don't you sell me your
E.L.Q. stock, huh?"
Ned: "You want to buy me out of E.L.Q.?"
Edward: "Chloe, your Australian friend is trying to ruin me, and Ned refuses
to help."
Ned: "Don't believe a word of it."
Chloe: "Who started this little game with Jax anyway?"
Ned: "That's the spirit."
Edward: "Jax has pulled you completely into his camp, hasn't he?"
Chloe: "I am in my own camp, Edward."
Edward: "Chloe, how can you turn your back on our own family in our time of need,
hmm?"
Ned: "Which would not be now."
Chloe: "The Quartermaines have survived without me for this long."
Edward: "You're certainly looking well."
Chloe: "Jax takes wonderful care of me."
Edward: "Ah, you're a Morgan. You made a brilliant recovery, and that scheming
Aussie had nothing to do with it."
Edward: "She's trying to get rid of me, isn't she?"
Ned: "We have a company to run."
Edward: "Such as it is."
Edward: "You remember what I said, Ned."
Ned: "Oh, I always do."
Emily: "Grandfather, I like it here. It's peaceful. People don't yell."
Edward: "If that kid has cost you one moment of concern, I swear I will take
care of him."
Emily: "Grandfather, Juan is the best thing that's ever happened to me."
Edward: "Oh. That's even worse."
Emily: "He wants to be a singer."
Edward: "You call that a career?"
Edward: "Ned put you up to this, didn't he?"
Emily: "No. Ned wanted to back us up, but L&B doesn't have the money."
Edward: "He conned you into asking me for money so he wouldn't have to."
Emily: "Grandfather, he didn't do that."
Edward: "You know, it's bad enough to have one member of my family wasting his
life in this so-called music business, but--"
Emily: "If you would just listen to Juan sing--"
Edward: "I never wanted you to be involved with that kid in the first place, and
now he's got you trying to take money from me."
Juan: "It isn't like that. Emily's just trying to help."
Emily: "Yeah, grandfather, if you could listen for one second--"
Edward: "You--you get a job. [door slams]"
Juan: "Guess we'll take that as a no."
Juan: "Come here. My girlfriend backs me up, and that's really all that matters."
X. Eddie Maine Rides Again (4/12)
Ned: "I'm thinking maybe I should just shut the doors to L&B. Maybe it's over.
I mean, Lois and I split up. I never see my daughter. Brenda's gone. I mean, nothing
lasts forever."
Alexis: "Edward drop by again?"
Ned: "You can always tell."
Ned: "Look, you don't have to stick around for this."
Alexis: "Are you kidding? Dark nights of the soul are my specialty. Genetics."
Ned: "It's not even dark yet."
Alexis: "Oh, you'll feel much worse by then."
Ned: "Oh. Something to look forward to."
Alexis: "Unless you'd rather feel much worse now."
Ned: "Really?"
Alexis: "Are you sure?"
Ned: "You're such a tease."
Alexis: "What's the quickest, fastest way to bring cash in this door? Two words."
Ned: "Eddie Maine."
Alexis: "Eddie! Eddie! Eddie! Eddie!"
Ned: "So, what if Eddie Maine really has left the building?"
Alexis: "You're talking to one of these people who still believes Elvis is alive."
Ned: "Well, what if I just can't be him anymore?"
Alexis: "You are him."
Ned: "Was. And it was a long time ago. And I needed Eddie then, ok? I needed him
to deal with my family. Lois fell in love with him."
Alexis: "Honey, worst-case scenario."
Ned: "He can't sing anymore."
Alexis: "Well, we both know that that's not true."
Ned: "The crowd hates him."
Alexis: "Well, that's a risk every performer takes."
Ned: "What if he falls flat on his face and is a total embarrassment to anyone
who ever knew him?"
Alexis: "So we'll get the cash upfront. No refunds."
Ned: "I love the way you think."
Alexis: "Eddie won't let you down."
Ned: "All right, so, what about his favorite groupie?"
Alexis: "Well, I'll see what I can do."
Ned: "All right, all right. One night only, cash upfront, Eddie Maine saves L&B."
Alexis: "Yahoo! I knew you could do it."
