The Scorpios: (cont.)

III. Mac Tells Dara His Marriage is Over (3/7)

Dara: "Ok. So I'm headed home."
Mac: "Good night."
Dara: "You should be, too, Mac."
Mac: "I can't. I've left Felicia."

Dara: "I had no idea you and Felicia were having problems."
Mac: "Yeah, it snuck up on me, too. I could've sworn Felicia and I were as solid as they come."

Mac: "You know, I always thought that if something was going to happen, I would know, that I would see it coming. Maybe I did. Maybe I did and refused to look."

Mac: "I don't want a marriage that has to be salvaged. It'll never be the same."

Dara: "What does Felicia want?"
Mac: "That's a good question. And don't tell me I should ask her."
Dara: "Ok. Well, what would Kevin say?"
Mac: "He already did. He told me that I should listen to Felicia's side. So I did."

Mac: "She doesn't think she did anything wrong. I mean, maybe this or that was a mistake, but in her heart, she doesn't believe it."

Dara: "Tell me what I can do to help."
Mac: "Just sitting here listening to me ramble helps a lot, thanks."
Dara: "I mean it. I mean it. Anytime."

IV. Felicia Faces Her Kids (3/7)

Felicia pokes at the party balloons, finally sitting down at the table to cry. She hears the voices of the kids coming home with Bobbie, and rouses herself up to greet them. She holds Georgie as the fight with Maxie begins.

Georgie: "Mommy?"
Maxie: "She's still here. Calm down."

Maxie: "See? I told you she was still here."
Felicia: "Yeah, well, of course I'm still here."

Felicia: "No. No, I am not leaving again. But Mac is. I know that this is very confusing, and it's really hard for me to say it, but he's not going to be living here for a while."

Maxie: "This is all your fault. Why'd you have to keep leaving us?"
Felicia: "I had a good reason, Maxie."
Maxie: "Better than us? Mac's the best thing that's ever happened to our family. He didn't just marry you, he married all of us. And now because of you, he's left. What are you going to do now, ship us back to grandmother's again?"

Felicia: "We love you. I love you."
Maxie: "Well, I hate you for this."
Bobbie: "Maxie--hey. Come on. It's understandable, honey, that you're very upset right now, but your mother is, too, as you can see."
Maxie: "I don't care about her. She doesn't care about me or Georgie."
Felicia: "That's not true. You know that."
Georgie: "Don't yell at mommy!"

Georgie: "I need help brushing my teeth."
Felicia: "Ok, I'll help you."
Maxie: "No. I'll do it, since I'm the one who's been doing it around here for months."

Judy: "With all the talk of Emmy nominations, I have a prediction for a future award: wasn't Maxie (I'm afraid I don't know the actress's name) excellentin these scenes? That's a youngun' that bears watching."

Joan: "I love Maxie, always have. And I first thought she was Emmy-worthy back when she was recuperating from her heart surgery. There was a scene when Felicia has to tell her that the donor was BJ, and what a great gift it was. We saw her absorb the shock, tears welling in her eyes, and then she quavered, 'Did I remember to say 'thank you'?' I just lost it; it's one of the sure-fire crying moments of my GH viewing career."

Felicia: "God. Did you hear her?"
Bobbie: "It's ok. She's just scared. You know she loves you."
Felicia: "She's right. I lied to her and to Georgie and to Mac."

Felicia: "Your nephew Lucky is alive."
Bobbie: "What did you just say?"
Felicia: "Lucky's alive. Faison told Luke just before he died. That's why Luke went to Europe--to get some proof. He didn't find any proof."
Bobbie: "No way. I don't believe it. You knew?"
Felicia: "Yeah, but I wasn't supposed to say anything. Luke didn't want anyone to know just in case it wasn't true or, god forbid, something was to happen."
Bobbie: "But the fire--"
Felicia: "He wasn't in it, Bobbie."
Bobbie: "Oh, god. He's alive?"

Bobbie: "Stefan has him?"
Felicia: "Well, that's what Luke's trying to figure out. But you can't tell anybody until he's home safe. Luke told Laura, and--well, I told Mac about it."

Bobbie: "Oh, man, I can't believe how my brother must feel right now. You know, something died in Luke the night he thought he lost Lucky in that fire, and I didn't think he'd ever get it back. And Laura? Oh, honey, this could make all the difference in the world for you and Mac. You know, because Mac--he'll understand now. He's only been looking at one side of the picture."
Felicia: "That's exactly what I was hoping. Why can't he see it the way you see it?"
Bobbie: "Well, for one thing, I'm not your husband. And I'm not the one you ran out on and lied to."

Bobbie: "I'm not trying to kick you when you're down, but there are two sides to every story, and I've been a witness to Mac's. Day after day, he's been waiting for you to call and hoping that you would tell him the truth, and instead, honey, you lied to him."
Felicia: "I really thought I had a good reason to do it."
Bobbie: "I know. I know you did. And--well, now that I know what it is, I do, too, but--well, Mac may take some convincing. I mean, you know, because as far as he's concerned, you chose to trust and protect another man over your husband. And you know Mac was already having problems with Luke. So naturally he's hurt, he's confused, and he needs a chance to unload. So do your girls."
Felicia: "Well, you know, I knew I would hurt him, but I really thought that I could fix it once I explained everything about Lucky."
Bobbie: "Felicia, you're my best friend, and Luke's my brother. I know something's been going on between the two of you since before Faison died."
Felicia: "I have never been unfaithful to Mac. Not that I haven't been tempted. But Mac is the man that I came home to. He's the man that I choose. I want my life here with my girls. I just have to make him understand that. Could you wait here for a little while while I go see him?"

I've been very interested with the language of choice surrounding Felicia in the dialogue, because of the parallels with her and Laura. Laura doesn't want to admit there's a choice, or she thinks she's already made it, or she can't make one when she recognizes it for what it is. That has frustrated me in recent months, but now I realize that I prefer it to Felicia, who would repeatedly claim to recognize a choice, to make a choice, but then would not stick to it. Laura seems to get that her choices are major, and can't make them because of the huge ramifications they carry. That means that lots of times, she can make smaller choices but the big ones are made for her. Now, Felicia keeps thinking that she's made the big choice when she hasn't, and it makes her look like she doesn't recognize the weighty nature of the trouble she's in. Laura can't choose when she's not sure she can match actions and consequences to that choice; Felicia chooses over and over but doesn't accompany her choice with action, and doesn't want to face the consequences of any choice. Finally, the speed with which she makes these declarations and choices alone should tip us off that they weren't going to stick.

Felicia also noted to Bobbie that Maxie meant what she was saying; when Nikolas told Stefan he wanted nothing more to do with the family, Stefan would respond the same way, with "He meant that." Families were on the verge of falling apart or staying together all over Port Charles. And I liked how it put Nikolas and Maxie on the same side of the line, as children, both because of the parallels later with Lucky and the way AJ has been seen as both a child and a father in this month even more than usual.

Felicia told Bobbie about Lucky as they were cleaning up, and that kind of hacked me off. It was as though Felicia had been hanging on that revelation to be the key to making everything right, so she kept using it with people to get them to forgive her or let her off the hook. Luke should have been the one to tell Bobbie; it was his right. Later, she would even announce to Lucky that she had helped look for him.

V. This Time, Felicia Asks Mac to Come Home and He Refuses (3/7)

Mac: "Did you want something?"
Felicia: "Yes. I want you to come home. Maxie's so angry with me and Georgie's very frightened."
Mac: "Felicia, I will always want to spend time with the girls. I love the girls. I just don't want to be around you."
Felicia: "Oh, Mac--"
Mac: "We're done, Felicia."
Felicia: "No, I--I am not done with you. I know I hurt you, and I'm so sorry. I love you."
Mac: "Yeah, is Carlson on his way up? Good, good."
Felicia: "I know you have to find Lucky, but after that will you come home?"
Mac: "All I need to do right now is get back to work."
Felicia: "Well, when you're ready to come home, I'll be waiting for you. Be safe."

Mac turned away from Felicia at her "I love you." He only looked back at her as she left the room.

VI. Felicia Tries Again (3/9)

Mac: "Georgie's almost reading. She has a good imagination. Apparently, she's telling everyone that her mother disappeared on an island and she's swimming with the dolphins. I assume you'll clear that up."
Felicia: "I will. So you'll be there?"
Mac: "Is there a problem?"
Felicia: "Maxie doesn't want me to step foot in that school. She thinks it'll ruin her life forever."
Mac: "Yeah, well, Maxie's not looking forward to this conference."
Felicia: "Why not?"
Mac: "She hasn't told you anything?"
Felicia: "She's barely speaking to me."
Mac: "I got a call from Maxie's homeroom teacher a couple weeks ago. She's been falling asleep in class."
Felicia: "She's staying up late reading books, has she?"
Mac: "Maxie's been taking almost full care of Georgie while you've been gone. I mean, Maxie has to get up extra early to get herself ready so she can get Georgie ready so she doesn't miss her bus. Someone has to find Georgie's shoe. You know, Maxie comes home straight from school because I can't always be there, and I can't afford to pay Betty full-time. She's tried having friends over, which is fine with me, but it--it doesn't work out. I mean, Georgie keeps interrupting, and Maxie gets caught in the middle. Maxie can't concentrate on her homework while taking care of Georgie, so she stays up late. She's fallen behind, particularly in history and English."
Felicia: "Didn't the teachers understand?"
Mac: "Understand what, Felicia? That her mother disappeared somewhere? That no one quite knew where she was? Maxie was so embarrassed she didn't even tell anybody."
Felicia: "So she just got in trouble for sleeping in class?"
Mac: "I went to the school, but I wasn't much help. Maxie doesn't want anyone feeling sorry for her so she kind of shut down during the meeting."
Felicia: "Well, I'll definitely clear it up when I see them tonight."
Mac: "Good luck."

Felicia: "Do you want me to pick you up?"
Mac: "No."

VII. Mac Meets with Stefan and Luke (3/9)

Mac: "Now, give me one good reason why I shouldn't bust you for kidnapping."
Stefan: "I didn't kidnap anyone."

Mac: "Mr. Cassadine, would you mind waiting outside for a minute?"
Stefan: "Why?"
Mac: "Well, this is how it works. I'm the police commissioner and this is my office, so wait outside."

Mac: "So you kidnapped Lucky?"
Stefan: "Rescued."

Mac: "Why didn't you come to the police, give us a call?"
Stefan: "I had the situation under control."
Mac: "Not anymore."

Mac: "I've already started a search for Lucky Spencer. But this is so far beyond a long shot. I am just sick and tired of cleaning up after the Cassadines."

Luke: "What's so important I got to leave work?"
Mac: "Well, Stefan here claims Helena has Lucky. And you seem to think that he does. I just need to know who's telling the truth."

Mac: "Stefan maintains he was rescuing your son."
Luke: "From what? And where is he? Never mind. I'll find him myself."
Mac: "Hey, the police could help if you just give us proof that Stefan took him."
Stefan: "Are you offering to frame me for him?"
Mac: "I'm just looking for the truth."

Luke: "Well, sounds like you got everything covered. Now, if you lock this creep up, the whole world'll be a happy place."

VIII. Felicia Talks with Bobbie Again (3/9)

Bobbie: "But I saw Luke, and I told him about you and Mac. I hope I wasn't out of line."
Felicia: "No, no, no. Half the town probably knows by now."

Felicia: "Did he say anything?"
Bobbie: "Well, you know Luke."
Felicia: "Yeah, it's really not his problem."

Bobbie: "But I think the sooner Luke hits the road, the better."
Felicia: "That's when he's the happiest."

Felicia: "I didn't really think it would count--you know, Luke and I--because even if there were feelings, I didn't act on them."
Bobbie: "An affair of the heart."
Felicia: "Yeah. And it hurt my family just as much if not more."

Felicia: "You remember when Maxie was in the hospital and Mac went to look for Frisco and bring him home?"
Bobbie: "Yeah."
Felicia: "That was a terrible time for all of us, but I could depend on Mac. He just can't depend on me."
Bobbie: "Oh, honey, don't. Don't--don't do this to yourself."
Felicia: "I promised Mac forever. I promised the girls he would never leave. But he's gone now, and it's completely my fault."

Felicia: "Please don't say that he's going to get over it. Not after what I did. He's never lied to me. Not ever."
Bobbie: "So keep trying."
Felicia: "I can't blame him for being mad at me."
Bobbie: "I mean, you and Mac have a lot of time invested. You've been friends for a long time."
Felicia: "That only makes things worse."

Felicia: "When Mac wasn't there this morning, Georgie cried. And Maxie--it's like I'm not even there. She doesn't want me to go to the school tonight. And I made blueberry pancakes for her for breakfast, but she didn't show up at the breakfast table."
Bobbie: "She's really upset, huh?"
Felicia: "What made me think my kids could get by without me? It's like this wild side just took over and all the important things--"
Bobbie: "Everything is still here. Hey, it's not too late."
Felicia: "I just want my family back."
Bobbie: "Then go get it."

Bobbie's on Luke's phone as Felicia opens the door to (but doesn't enter, I notice) Luke's office. As she says that she's ruined everything, she looks at the passports in Luke's bag; I assume that Hiram and Orphey were there. Here, with a sympathetic listener, she can claim full responsibility (it's rather like the way Carly and Sonny [and others] refuse blame as a defense mechanism). So why is it that the rest of the time she plays the martyr, irritated that her family won't immediately forgive her? She seems shallow these days, like a petulant child who wants to say she's sorry and be done with it. She has yet to recognize, it seems, the enormity of what she's done. And that would go on for a while--is still going on as I write this.

At the end, Felicia and Bobbie sat side by side on the end of Luke's desk. Even as Felicia went to get her family back, she was in her usual place in Luke's office. Meanwhile, Laura was determined to take action to get her family back--at least Lucky, at this point, but Luke at least in part too--by preparing to go look for her son with Luke.
