Roy and Hannah: (cont.)
VI. Hannah Deals with the News About Sonny (3/10)
Hannah: "Is it really true? Are you living with Carly? Wow. I guess I should
feel sorry for you. I can't imagine anything worse than living with Carly."
Sonny: "How about living with you?"
Hannah: "Oh, you know what, Sonny? Maybe you're getting exactly what you deserve."
Sonny: "What's that supposed to mean?"
Hannah: "Meaning, if you can't see love when it's offered to you, then you don't
deserve to have it. I know one thing's for sure. I'm so tired of asking you to
forgive me."
Sonny: "Good, because I got someplace I got to be."
From Terry's update: "Roy observes all this through the window, takes off
to talk to Hannah. Bobbie puts on her coat and leaves too, although Tammy never
arrived. Tsk. Tsk."
Bobbie also consulted her sticky note at this point, and again I was tickled
at the thought of the mob using sticky notes.
Roy: "I was at Kelly's. I saw you talking to Sonny."
Hannah: "Yeah. I said some things to him that I should have said a long time ago."
Roy: "It felt good?"
Hannah: "Yeah, it felt great."
Roy: "Whoo."
Hannah: "I still love him. You know, I probably always will. But I'm not going
to throw my life away because of him."
Roy: "Oh, hallelujah. I'm proud of you, babe."
Hannah: "I've blown your cover if anyone finds us."
Roy: "You know, it's almost worth it just to see you happy for a change."
Hannah: "Oh, I'm not 100% over Sonny. But you know, he made mistakes, too."
Hannah: "I really wish that you and I were out of this. And I wish that it
wasn't you that had to bring evidence against him."
Roy: "So do I. Unfortunately, the bureau has given me no choice."
Hannah: "Do you need backup?"
Roy: "Yeah, let's see, how would that work? I could show up at the meeting tonight
and announce that I brought along my F.B.I. agent daughter for good luck."
Hannah: "Come on, dad, I know how to stay out of sight."
Roy: "I mean, I could smuggle you in in a duffle bag or something."
Hannah: "I want to help. Seriously."
Roy: "You stay completely clear of it. I don't need your help now. You've inspired
me."
Hannah: "By getting mad?"
Roy: "By sticking up for yourself. You should do it more often. It looks good
on you. Wish me luck."
Hannah: "Ok."
Roy: "Yeah. You know, Hannah, I really do believe that things are starting to
turn around for the both of us. I'll see you."
VII. Sorel Gets His Bargaining Chip (3/10)
Bobbie: "Ah, sorry. There's been a mistake. See, I--I was meeting someone,
and I obviously have the wrong address. So, if you'll excuse me--"
Sorel: "But we haven't introduced ourselves yet. I'm Joseph Sorel, a business
associate of Mr. Corinthos'. And you, of course, are Bobbie Spencer."
Bobbie: "Nice to meet you."
Sorel: "Mm-hmm. You know, you and Sonny are practically related, now that he's
living with your daughter. I wonder what Sonny would be willing to do to get the
grandmother of his child out of danger."
Sorel came up behind Bobbie, so she turned--right into the goon standing behind
her.
Terry: "You know, I would have reversed the order of all the scenes
in the final act of this episode."
VIII. Roy Meets with Sorel and Gets Suspicious (3/13)
Sorel: "Corinthos made a mistake by not coming himself."
Roy: "Actually, you are the one who made the mistake. And Sonny is not very happy
with you."
Roy: "You set this meeting up to ambush Sonny, didn't you?"
Sorel: "Are you always this suspicious?"
Roy: "Not always. Just when I get the feeling somebody's hiding something."
Roy: "Bobbie, it's Roy. Where the heck are you? Actually, you're probably
already in bed. I just wanted to let you know the meeting's over and I'm ok. Headed
home. And I'm really looking forward to our dinner tomorrow night. So, I'll see
you then. Ok. Sleep tight, baby."
Bobbie: "And if things don't work out the way you want with Sonny, then what?"
Sorel: "As much as I regret it, I'd have to make an example of you."
Bobbie: "'An example'? What is that supposed to mean? What, I'm found floating
facedown in the water or hanging from some doorway?"
Sorel: "I'm betting it won't come to that. Within 24 hours, Sonny is going to
get word of your situation, and I can't believe he's not going to come running
to the rescue. What do you think?"
Bobbie moved to leave at one point, and there was a man between her and the
door. When Roy entered, he put his hands up without being asked, and we had a
shot of Bobbie during his conversation with Sorel. I remembered that Carly had
followed Jason on his business before.
My favorite bit was Roy's line about detailing Sorel's car. He gave a big
smile on that one, and with all the "I'm in control" smiles that Sonny had been
giving this month, I noted that Roy's was the same kind.
Even as he talked, Roy kept looking towards the back of the warehouse to try
and catch a glimpse of what was going on. I've noticed that about him; he's always
very aware of his surroundings, always paying attention to the other parts of
the room. At this point, Bobbie bit the man who was holding her and tried to walk
out, but the door was locked. You go, girl!
Roy went to the phone to call Bobbie's house again to see if she was there.
After he hung up the phone, he whispered, "Sleep tight, baby."
IX. Hannah Tries to Move Past Her Past (3/13)
Tammy: "This is to her credit--you know, she was the first one to call Hannah
a liar."
Mike: "Well, it takes one to know one."
Tammy: "Yeah, but she did put herself on the line to expose Hannah for what she
is."
Hannah: "You know, the two of you are wrong about me."
Hannah: "You know what? I don't want to argue, either, but, you know, I'm
sick of saying how sorry I am all the time. And maybe I did some things wrong,
but you know what? I loved Sonny very much, and I fought like hell to keep him
out of prison."
Mike: "We've heard all this before."
Hannah: "You won't even look at what Sonny did wrong. He told me he loved me,
and then he went and slept with Carly. He's no hero."
Mike: "Look, you ought to get your facts straight. You're working too hard to
convince the wrong people."
Tammy: "You know what? Remind me to find that woman another place to live, will
you?"
Mike: "Yeah."
Hannah: "I finally took your advice, and I've decided to stand up for myself."
Taggert: "And you're still in one piece."
Hannah: "Mm-hmm."
Taggert: "So how does it feel?"
Hannah: "It feels great."
Hannah: "I can't believe it. I can't believe I finally stood up to Sonny."
Taggert: "Well, it's about time."
Hannah: "What was I so scared of all this time? You know, I owe you. And I owe
you for this, too. This was a great idea."
Taggert: "Well, you were long overdue for a celebration."
Hannah: "It's like I could finally take a deep breath that I haven't been able
to in I don't know how long. Thank you for everything."
Taggert: "Shh. You've already taken care of the thank-yous."
Hannah: "You know, there was only two people in my life who did not judge me,
and you are one of them."
Taggert: "That's because I knew what you were going through. Decisions aren't
always cut-and-dry in our line of work."
Hannah: "Hmm. You know, I still have all these feelings for him. And I'm not sure
if it's love, if it's hurt, if it's pride. I don't know."
Taggert: "Mind if I ask you something?"
Hannah: "Sure."
Taggert: "You like to dance?"
Hannah: "Yeah, I like dance."
Taggert: "Would you?"
Hannah: "Oh. Sure. Ok."
Taggert looked in the window of Kelly's to see Hannah standing at the jukebox
before he entered.
Amy: "I liked Hannah at first. No, really, I think I'm on record of
really being pleased with her pincushion test and her standing up to Sonny. But
now that we realize that was all an act, and have suffered through some really
bad stuff, I have no patience for her at all, and regret that she has been tagged
onto Roy. I wonder if the actress would do better with a different kind of storyline.
Surely nobody looks good blaming themselves for something that was their job and
swapping barbs with Tammy."
X. Roy Goes After Bobbie (3/17)
I got a kick out of Bobbie's kidnapping, and not just because of Roy and Sonny
working together. I really enjoyed the scenes with Bobbie and Sorel. She was calm,
and she knew the score; she was raised in a life that left her no room to misunderstand
the "game" Sorel was referring to, and she knew that her life was on the line.
I don't know, it was kind of akin to the kick I get out of old 60s television
in a way.
Meanwhile, Roy was out beating up a guy and throwing him in the water to find
out where she was.
From Terry's update: Bobbie/Moreno/Roy: Roy meets Benny on the docks. He wants
to talk to Sonny 'pronto,' he tells Benny, because Sorel has Bobbie. Benny is
skeptical, and Roy gets angry. Benny won't disobey Sonny's direct order and call
his boss."
"Meanwhile, Bobbie, in her brown leather jacket (what is it with all this
leather on the show lately?), wants to know why Sorel wants to antagonize Sonny.
He doesn't see what he's doing that way. She expresses confidence that Roy will
find her."
"On the docks, Roy jumps one of Sorel's men, insisting on knowing where Bobbie
is being held. He chokes the information out of the guy, literally, and then,
in a nice touch, throws the guy into the river (lake, whatever)."
"Roy breaks into the office where Bobbie is being held, but as he starts to
take her out, Sorel and his men rush in, guns drawn."
"This leads to the best scene of the day--Sorel asks Roy if Sonny sent him
or if he's acting alone. Roy tries to fight his way free of the two henchmen holding
him. He falls to the ground, Bobbie breaks free of Sorel's grip to run to him,
and we get a cool juxtaposition of present day and flashback to the night Bobbie
thought Roy died--Bobbie strokes Roy's face now, and Bobbie strokes his face then,
Luke drags her away then, and Sorel drags her away now. Sorel's men kick him viciously
as Bobbie yells."
Bobbie was sitting on the sofa as Roy looked in on her, but she was quick
to get up and come with him. And I liked that, with all the shots of men standing
between their woman and the danger we've had recently, Roy and Bobbie stood side
by side when they were stopped.
XI. A Tiger By the Tail (3/21)
And you thought Bobbie was spirited with Sorel before Roy was hurt...
Bobbie: "If Roy doesn't make it, you'll answer to Sonny."
Sorel: "All of this would have been over and done with if Dilucca hadn't tried
to play hero. For your sake, Sonny better meet my terms--and soon. Because one
way or another, this is going to end."
Sorel: "You stick to what I told you."
Bobbie: "Sonny, it's Roy. He's been hurt, and he's been beaten up, and he could
be dead. Please, you got to find him."
Sorel: "You should have stuck to what I told you."
Bobbie: "When Roy's lying in the street hurt, maybe dead? Somebody has to find
him."
Bobbie: "Sonny will never agree to your terms. Not if your delicate cargo
is drugs. Because he didn't deal in drugs before, and he never will."
Sorel: "Then you got a real problem."
Terry: "I have loved the character combinations here. Loved Roy and
Benny, Bobbie and Sorel. Jackie Zeman does tough Bobbie so well. They should use
that portion of her range more often. No baby-talk, no eye-widening. Bobbie was
born to be a mob babe. OF course, I suspect that, given the FBI's response to
her plight and whatever Sonny's response turns out to be, Roy will move to the
Gummi-dark side, so she'll be back to being one anyway. Like mother, like daughter,
or is that like daughter, like mother."
Joan: "You bet. She is Carly's mother for real. And I agree, when she's
not doing shtick, Zeman rules."
Terry: "But Roy was not too terribly FBI-man cool bursting into the
warehouse with no backup, no planning, etc. He could have called Dumb Dora Hannah
to watch his back this time."
Amy: "I've been a bit bored with the Bobbie-as-hostage stuff. The bit
with Sonny and Carly may be interesting (I can't believe she asked him if they'd
be able to get back to 'the way things were,' for Pete's sake), but Bobbie captured
has been boring--Sorel does absolutely nothing for me. And while Roy's been a
dream, I hate the stuff with Hannah, who still is defending Sonny. I was glad
Roy told her off, in a sort of nice way."
Joan: "I like Sorel--so smarmy and he folds up like an accordion around
Sonny. He's quick to put the boot in--literally--when he's on his own, though."
XII. Roy Plans His Next Move (3/21)
I'm always impressed with actors who can play being in pain subtly and yet
well. When I believe that they're sick or in pain, rather than just acting, they
gain major points. Maurice Benard does it very well as Sonny, and A Martinez was
completely believable as the beaten Roy trying to hide his injuries as he hobbled
down the stairs at the docks.
I don't often like flashbacks to scenes that have just happened, but I wasn't
going to complain about their replaying the scene of Roy's beating while Bobbie
sat crouched on the floor behind the door in her new cell. Well, I might complain
about having to watch him go through that again, but I didn't mind the repeat.
Hannah: "You can't go alone. What about Sonny? He and Bobbie are friends."
Roy: "Ha."
Hannah: "He turned you down?"
Roy: "He's deciding whether or not to meet Sorel's demands."
Hannah: "Well, he--Sonny won't touch drugs."
Roy: "Yeah, I know. Sonny won't touch--Sonny's so ethical. I heard this speech.
I don't need it again. Bobbie's life is at stake."
Hannah: "There's a lot at stake for you, too, isn't there?"
Roy: "Oh, Hannah--I figured what we had, it would have been over years ago, you
know?"
Hannah: "But it isn't."
Roy: "No, it isn't. But it would be better for her if it were because I am doing
the same thing to her now that I did back then."
Hannah: "How did you guys break up?"
Roy: "I--I couldn't bring myself to level with her, which tore us up. It busted
both our hearts. And all these years later down the road, here I am lying again
about who I am and what I'm doing. It's remarkable."
Hannah: "Don't give up."
Roy: "You know, it's just like what you were telling me the other day in Luke's
office about you and Sonny. Bad things will happen when you don't level with people."
Hannah: "That doesn't mean the same thing has to happen to you. Maybe what Sonny
and I had wasn't meant to be. Otherwise the truth wouldn't have destroyed us.
You and Bobbie are different. There's a history there. There's still love, even
after all of these years apart."
Roy: "Yeah, she might be able to forgive me for the past, but I'm also the guy
who walked back into her life and sent her fiancé to prison. She has no idea."
Hannah: "You couldn't have told her you were F.B.I.--not then, anyway."
Roy: "That's the thing. I could have told her. On a hundred different occasions,
I could have told her, and I didn't. I've been looking out for me. I wanted a
second chance with her, but I wasn't willing to earn it by telling her the truth.
And now her life is on the line because of me."
Hannah: "I know--I know you can--you can do anything."
Roy: "God, I hope you're right. Because all that matters is keeping her alive.
That's all that matters."
Hannah: "Why don't you ask the F.B.I. for help?"
Roy: "I did. I did that, too. They turned me down."
Hannah: "What? That's impossible. Not when Bobbie's life is on the line."
Roy: "Oh, they don't give a damn about that. They just hope that Sonny will break
the law getting her back, and then they can arrest him."
Sonny: "Hey. It's Sonny. I've decided to give Sorel what he wants. I need
your help."
Roy: "Just tell me what to do."
