The Scorpios:

  • Dara takes Mac to Jake's for a break, and he talks about Felicia. They run into Taggert and Hannah, and then Mac agrees to go home and get some sleep. (4/26)
  • In Texas, Felicia cries in her room while remembering the cold reception she received from her girls when she arrived. Meanwhile, Mac talks to Bobbie at Kelly's and meets Taggert. When Felicia calls him, he won't come to the phone. (4/27)

I. A Break at Jake's (4/26)

Dara: "Anyway, are we staying away from the Felicia topic or are we just busting it out?"
Mac: "Let's stay away from it."
Dara: "Ok. So what's new on the Scanlon shooting?"
Mac: "Have you ever been in love, Dara?"
Dara: "Yes."
Mac: "And when it ended, how long did it take for you to get over it? The reason I'm asking is because I heard somewhere that it takes at least three years before you can finally feel as if you've put the other stuff down. How long did it take for you?"
Dara: "Well, I don't know, seeing as though I'm still in that three-year period."
Mac: "When I go home, I miss my family. So as much as I can, I don't go home."
Dara: "Well, if you miss them that much, why don't you get them back?"

Mac: "You know, Felicia can claim that she only left to help Luke and Laura search for lucky this last time, but the fact is she knew what was on the line and she still left."
Dara: "You mean your marriage."
Mac: "She made her choice. She may not want to admit it, but doesn't make it any less true."
Dara: "How are the girls handling all this?"
Mac: "Maxie and Georgie call me every night. Felicia's flown back to Texas to try and patch things up."
Dara: "Mm-hmm."
Mac: "They refuse to see her."
Dara: "Well, that can't be good."
Mac: "This wasn't supposed to happen to us. You know, I've watched people get divorced who have kids. How can they do that? Dara, I feel--I feel like I've been hit by a truck. And the woman that I've loved and married turned out to be someone I didn't know."

Dara: "Just be careful that you don't let your pride get in the way."

Dara: "Mac, just make sure you're not walking away from something you're going to later regret."
Mac: "Thanks. You know what? I think three days of no sleep is finally catching up to me."
Dara: "Oh. You going back to the office?"
Mac: "No. No, I think I'll go home. Got to get used to it sometime."

Taggert: "I'm glad Dara got Mac out for a while. His marriage is breaking up. He's taking it pretty hard."
Hannah: "Yeah, love isn't easy to let go of."
Taggert: "Nope."
Hannah: "But I am proof positive that it can happen."
Taggert: "Yeah, I thought I noticed that light coming back on in your eyes."
Hannah: "You know, Taggert, you've been a really good friend, and anything else should scare me to death--yes!--but it doesn't. You don't."
Taggert: "Well, I am glad to hear that."

II. Lonely in Texas (4/27)

Maxie's voice: "Why don't you just go back to Port Charles, mom?"
Felicia: "Maxie, I know you're in there. I saw you through the window. Please open up this door. Open the door! Honey, it's so good to see you."

Mariah: "Hello, Felicia."
Felicia: "Well, hello. Are you going to let me in, or are you going to slam the door in my face, too?"

Felicia: "I'm not saying that I haven't made any mistakes. And I'm not trying to justify the ones that I have made. But I did not have an affair with Luke. The reason I took off with him a few times was because I was trying to help him find his son."
Mariah: "At the expense of your own daughters."
Felicia: "I didn't realize that was the case."
Mariah: "Because you were so besotted with that man that you--you just didn't stop to think."
Felicia: "Well, that's not entirely untrue."
Mariah: "Felicia, that's where you lose me. Look, I know. I realize that people have attractions outside their marriages. It's unfortunate, but that's for the adults to work out. You have children who already have abandonment issues. Oh, for the life of me--and believe me, I've tried--I cannot understand how you could take off with your lover and leave those two dear little girls to fend for themselves."
Felicia: "Oh, boy, oh, boy. Mac is really good. You know what? I've already been tried and convicted before I even got here. I did not have an affair with Luke. We are not together. Do I have feelings for him? Well, I'm not going to deny that, but I never acted on them and I don't intend to. I just want my family back, grandmother."
Mariah: "That might be harder to accomplish than you think."
Felicia: "Please, will you just go get her and let me speak with her?"
Mariah: "I'm not going to force her."
Felicia: "She's my girl. Regardless of what you and Mac may think of me at the moment, I really need to speak with her."

Maxie: "Georgie doesn't know you're here. It would upset her."
Felicia: "Why?"
Maxie: "Because she's too little to understand anything except you don't want to be with us."
Felicia: "That's not true. I'm here, aren't I?"
Maxie: "Yeah. Finally. But it's too late. Now we don't want to be with you. Why can't you just go back with Luke Spencer--"
Felicia: "No--"
Maxie: "And leave us alone?"
Felicia: "That's not going to happen. You and Georgie are my girls. For life. I will always go wherever you are to show you how much I love you. I've never been more sorry about what I've done to hurt you. I never, ever once stopped to think that maybe my being gone so long would have such a bad effect on you guys, and I'm so sorry. I'll never forgive myself for the rest of my life. I know you're angry with me, and I don't blame you, Maxie. You have every right to be angry with me. All I'm asking is for you to give us girls a chance to put this all behind us. Can you do that for me? Huh?"

Felicia: "I'm sorry. I promised myself that I wouldn't push. I just want everything to go back to normal."

We saw these scenes in flashback, cutting from shots of Felicia crying in her room at Mariah's to flashbacks of new material, apparently treated in the same way the footage of the "Twist of Fate" episode. I thought it granted too much importance to things we've seen before, but I also thought it was a handy way to deal with the time lag between Felicia's last scenes and these.

III. Tell Her I'm Not Here (4/27)

Bobbie: "Mac, wait a minute. Am I understanding this correctly? You took Felicia's girls to Texas without even telling her?"
Mac: "I don't recall Felicia leaving me a number where she could be reached the last time she ran off with Luke."
Bobbie: "Oh, Mac. Come on. Look, I know you're hurt, but to just take Felicia's girls somewhere else?"
Mac: "Not somewhere, Bobbie, to Mariah. They need to be with someone that gives a damn about them. Unfortunately, that's not their mother."

Mac: "Not to be rude, Bobbie, but I think it's better if you and I don't discuss Felicia. I mean, not only are you her best friend, but you're also Luke's sister. There's no way you can be impartial."
Bobbie: "So who is, Mac? You?"
Mac: "Regardless, I don't want to sit here and listen to you defend Luke."
Bobbie: "You know what? My brother's a grownup. He doesn't need defending. I'm concerned about the girls."
Mac: "You and I agree. Concern for Maxie and Georgie was why I left them with Mariah."
Bobbie: "Be careful, Mac. Felicia is not going to take this lying down. I know I wouldn't."
Mac: "Well, you know, Felicia can do what she wants, but the girls are staying in Texas."

Taggert: "No, you're not. Look, I don't know what's going on with you and your wife, sir, but I do know you and Felicia have something special, you know, something worth fighting for, even if it means swallowing a little pride."
Mac: "Thanks for your concern, lieutenant, but you're right--you don't know what's going on. So, if it's all the same to you, I'd like to get back to work."

Maxie: "Why don't you just go back to Port Charles, mom?"

Felicia: "Hi. It's Felicia. Um--the desk sergeant told me that Mac might be there about now. Is he there? Could I talk to him?"
Tammy: "Hold on. Mac? Your wife's on the phone."
Mac: "Tell her I'm not here."
Tammy: "Sorry, hon. You just missed him."
Felicia: "Ok, Tammy. Thanks for trying."

Felicia knows the Kelly's phone number by heart?

Amy: "Luke has received some criticism over the years for his treatment of both of his children. Sometimes very serious criticism. But at this point, he needs to be away from one child to find another, while Felicia is the one doing the more serious damage."

Joan: "I'll say. She has consistently lied to her husband, put herself in harm's way without regard for her children's need to have her there for them, promised never to roam minutes before picking up and leaving with only a note, made Maxie de facto mother to her sister, said to her husband 'you and the girls are the most important things in my life' while demonstrating by her actions that they come in a poor third behind her commitment to Luke and her desire for thrills. As for her relationship with Luke, she's right: technically, she has not slept with Luke; in all the ways that count, however, she has been unfaithful to Mac in thought, desire and action many times over."

Amy: "At the same time, she latches onto that accusation adultery and defends herself against that at precisely the points when she knows she can't defend herself against his other accusations about her girls. Or she turns it back on him and blames him for turning them against her."

"I liked the idea somebody posted on ratsa about this springing out of Mac and Felicia's past--namely Frisco. That would feel like it was more about them and less about Luke, or the present, or something new or unusual."

"It might be interesting to see played out. As the layers of the fighting about the Luke stuff peel back, we'd get down to the fact that Mac, at one point, backed out of an engagement to Felicia because of Frisco. A look at the doubts that underlie this accidental marriage (they weren't actually supposed to get married that day, remember?) would be fantastic, and a great way to look at Mac and Felicia history. If we could then see them work towards a reconciliation--and maybe another, planned, marriage, I could dig it."
