The Quartermaines:
- When Emily overhears that Carly has left Sonny, she gets into a fight with
her about Michael's safety. Juan tries to calm her down and convince her that
she can protect Michael better by not making an enemy of Carly. She ends up getting
angry at his defense of Sonny. (4/17)

to come back to ELQ. (4/18)

a fight with Bobbie when he asks her to help him see Michael and she turns him
down. (4/18)

her in her bid for a seat on the hospital board. Later, Lucy runs into AJ at Kelly's.
(4/19)
- Emily tricks Edward into signing a permission form that lets her take money
out of her trust fund. She intends to fund Juan's career herself, though he's
nervous about taking her money. (4/19)
- At the hospital, Alan confronts Stefan over his attitude towards the hospital,
and then fights with Monica about Rae. (4/19)
- Alan gets a page and is at the bank to intercept Emily. Later, she faces both
her parents. Juan comes to her defense, but Alan and Monica make it clear that
they'd better be on their best behavior. (4/20)
- Ned's a bit nervous about getting back into his leather pants, but Alexis
encourages him. He assures her that Eddie Maine is a one-time thing, but she says
that he shouldn't refuse the possibility that he'll want to continue performing.
At the grill, they run into Sonny and Carly. Ned swaps some barbs with her, while
Alexis tells Sonny that she spoke with Bobbie about Roy. (4/21)
- When they run into Sonny and Carly at the Grill later, the Quartermaines are
none too happy, and Alan confronts Sonny. (4/21)
- Meanwhile, AJ asks Mike to arrange a visit for him with Michael, but Mike
turns him down. (4/21)
- After the Qs face down Sonny and Carly and lose, Alan and Monica get into
another fight over Rae. (4/24)
- Alexis and Ned discuss the possibility of Eddie sticking around, especially
in--or out of--his leather pants. (4/24)
- Alan and Monica make the peace in the wake of Carly's miscarriage scare. (4/25)
- Ned and Alexis put in some hours at L&B. They're interrupted by a visit from
Stefan; Ned tells him to stay away from Alexis. (4/26)
- Finally, after Hannah insists on breaking up her date with Taggert and driving
him home, AJ hits up Emily for access to Michael, but she turns him down. Upset,
she and Juan plan to be alone together. (4/26)
- Edward confronts AJ about selling ELQ stock to Jax. (4/27)
- Across town, Sonny and Carly find Juan and Emily making out at Jason's old
penthouse and sit them down for a sex talk. It doesn't go well. (4/27)
I. Diplomacy 101 (4/17)
Emily: "It's just Jason wanted me to look out for Michael, you know? And
I told him I would, and Carly's ruining his life."
Juan: "But that's his mother. You want access to Michael, you can't pick fights
with her."
Emily: "I know, I know. I just--I really hate her."
Juan: "Hey. Michael still has you and sonny. And family's really big to him. I
mean, he's not going to let anything happen to Michael or the new baby."
Emily: "I don't understand you. You know, when I thought sonny was great, you
couldn't stand him. And now that I know that he's a backstabber, you stick up
for him. What--"
Juan: "And we don't even fight about it. Not so far, anyway."
II. An Offer He Can Refuse (4/18)
Ned: "You challenged Jax to a fistfight, and he is putting together a nuclear
arsenal."
Edward: "Oh. Well, then does that mean that you're ready to help the family, hmm?"
Ned: "No, I am out of ELQ! Just don't destroy this company trying to make
me come back."
Edward: "Say, how is that little so-called record company of yours, anyway?"
Ned: "Well, it certainly would be a lot better off if you hadn't crashed the distribution
deal."
Edward: "Just don't you give this little matter another thought."
Ned: "Jax doesn't do 'little.'"
III. AJ Tells On Carly and He's the One Who Gets in Trouble (4/18)
A.J.: "Bobbie. Carly won't let me see Michael."
Bobbie: "I can't deal with it right now."
A.J.: "I want you to put in a good word with her."
Bobbie: "A.J., I got a lot on my mind."
A.J.: "But you think that joint custody's a good idea, right?"
Bobbie: "Not if you're drinking."
A.J.: "Damn you! You are such a hypocrite."
Bobbie: "I won't be sworn at in my own restaurant. Get out."
A.J.: "You have no right to keep me away from my son."
Bobbie: "Has it occurred to you that Michael might not be my main problem right
now? Neither is Carly and neither are you."
A.J.: "You don't care if your grandson lives with a criminal?"
Bobbie: "Michael's safe, and he's happy."
A.J.: "With your daughter the psycho slut?"
Bobbie: "Get out!"
A.J.: "You know, I will get my boy back, Bobbie."
Bobbie: "A.J.--"
A.J.: "What?"
Bobbie: "You want some real trouble? Stick around."
What is that threat about?
IV. Lila's Morning Calls (4/19)
Lila: "If Jax is like Edward, he's dealing with the situation the best
way that he knows how. Some of Edward's best business ventures came from the need
for distraction from adversity. We can't change our men, dear. But would we want
to?"
Lucy: "Yoo-hoo! Anybody home? Oh, you are home. I am so excited, two of my very
favorite people in the whole wide world right here, right now, when I need you
the most."
Lila and Chloe are both in blue. I found myself wishing we'd had more of this
with Chloe. As it is, her protestations of family loyalty seem really weak. And
I enjoyed the comparison to Edward. Lots of men have been compared to Edward;
my favorite being the Luke/Edward comparison, which is shown up on more than one
occasion. Unfortunately, the Edward/Jax stuff that's going on at this point would
come to a weak ending.
Lucy: "Python. Think python. I want--oh, my goodness. That color. These two
looks are fantastic. This color of python, you know, maybe cut sort of asymmetrically,
you know, on the bias. Kind of funky. What do you think, mother Quartermaine?"
Lila: "It looks very you, dear."
Lucy: "I know. Listen, G.H. is facing the worst crisis it has, i think, ever.
And, mother Quartermaine, the entire fate of the hospital is hanging in balance
in your hands."
Lila: "This crisis wouldn't have anything to do with a vacant seat on the
hospital board, would it?"
Lucy: "Uh--mother Quartermaine, you have to understand this. This is not just
about me and Rachel Locke. This is about the classic struggle between good and
evil."
Lila: "Which role would you assume, dear?"
Lucy: "So I'm begging you, I'm imploring you, I'm pleading with you. Please
back me with Edward. Tell him he has to back me. Tell him that I will do a good
job for G.H., I promise. Cross my heart, I will, and--"
Edward: "Well, I thought I felt a familiar buzz in this house."
Edward: "So, to what do we owe your--your charming presence, Lucy?"
Lucy: "Oh, well, a long, overdue visit to your kind, amazing, intuitive, sensitive,
benevolent, wonderful, gorgeous wife. And, oh, I'm just so sorry, Eddie, you weren't
here sooner because I so enjoy the pleasure of your company."
Edward: "Well, Lucy, the feeling is mutual."
I don't remember if Lucy called Edward, "Eddie," way back when. Since Carly's
been doing it, though, it's happened with others, too.
Edward: "Oh, I can only guess what that was about. So, come on. Advise
me as to whom I should back for the board seat, huh?"
Lila: "Why should I? You always do exactly as you please anyway. It's one of your
most endearing qualities, dear."
V. Lucy Visits with Another Quartermaine (4/19)
Lucy: "Ok, Christina Baldwin, this is A.J. Quartermaine."
A.J.: "You know, I have a little boy of my own. I never got to see him when
he was your size, and now he's gone."
Lucy: "A.J., Michael?"
A.J.: "Yeah. I may have lost him forever, Lucy."
Lucy: "Wait--you know, I've been trying not to listen to gossip lately, but last
time I heard, you know, through the grapevine, you and Carly and Michael, you
were all together."
A.J.: "We were until sonny and Carly stole him from me."
Lucy: "A.J., I know Carly. I mean, I would expect anything of her. I think
I picture her doing a stunt like this, but not sonny. I know sonny. I can't believe
that he--"
A.J.: "Believe it. Don't let it. You know what? They can't crucify me and skip
off in the sunset."
Lucy: "Oh, you better be careful. You know, every single revenge, payback kind
of thing I dreamed up, it cost me more than it was worth."
A.J.: "Yeah, well, there's not much left for them to take, Lucy."
Lucy: "But, A.J., punishing them is going to just make you feel better just for
a little. Now, listen, this is what you got to do."
A.J.: "Ok."
Lucy: "You got to try and focus on you. I mean, I know getting Michael back is
what would make you happy, but think of something else, anything else that would
make you happy."
A.J.: "A drink, but that's just a band-aid, right?"
Lucy: "Of course it is. Everybody wants to self-destruct every now and then, but
picture those two. You know what they'd get out of it? They'd win. You wouldn't.
So try the positive approach. Maybe take that revenge-payback junk out of your
head just for a little while and maybe your life will get better."
A.J.: "Well, I don't think my story has such a happy ending, but thank you, and
it was great to see you. Bye, Christina."
A.J.: "No worries little sister. Ok. The streets are safe."
VI. Emily's Stealth Attack (4/19)
Emily: "Well, I--I--I happen to have a plan."
Juan: "Hmm, you're going to need a plan."
Emily: "Don't worry, kid. I'm going to make you a major star."
Emily: "Step one, the stealth attack."
Juan: "Emily, wait. It's just that the trust fund's yours."
Emily: "Yeah. So?"
Juan: "So your parents put that money aside for you, not me."
Emily: "Yeah, but I believe in you."
Juan: "I know. And that means everything to me."
Emily: "So then just let me do this. I happen to think I'm making a very good
investment."
Juan: "I don't want to put you in that position. Besides, I'm working on a demo
myself, you know. It might not be professional or anything, but who knows? Maybe
some A&R guy will take pity on me, give me a chance."
Emily: "Yeah, but you only get, like, what, 30 seconds with some record guy?"
Juan: "Yeah. If you're lucky, according to Ned."
Emily: "Yeah, exactly. So why not make it the best it possibly can be? Besides,
you didn't ask. I offered."
Juan: "I know, but what if I--"
Emily: "Of course you're going to make it."
Juan: "If I did, you know, I'd pay you back 10 times over."
Emily: "Right, of course, of course."
Juan: "But what if, you know--"
Emily: "No ifs, Juan. You're going to be a major star. All we need is a signature."
Juan: "How? By using force of will to move your dad's hand across the page?"
Emily: "Actually, I have an idea. I know how to get my grandfather to sign those
papers without even asking one question."
Emily: "Uh, you know what, grandfather?"
Edward: "What?"
Emily: "I totally forgot to tell you. Jason sent me a post card."
Edward: "Oh?"
Emily: "Yeah, yeah, I know. He said something about being someplace warm and moving
on, you know? He didn't mention anything about coming home, which, you know, really
upset me because I miss him so much."
Edward: "Now, this is nonsense. I will not have you victimized by a delinquent
ingrate like Jason."
Emily: "Listen, I love my brother very, very much. But he's gone now. And now
that A.J.'s drinking again, I can't help but feel that maybe I'm going to lose
him in a sense, too. And I don't mean to whine, but if I can't go to my parents
for anything and my brothers are just drifting away--"
Edward: "Oh, you know, it is scandalous the way this family treats its young.
What a parade of role models go back and forth in front of you. You should be
living life like a normal teenager instead of being worried about your brothers'
treachery. I'll sign this thing. There."
Emily: "Oh! Thank you so much! You have no idea what you've done for me."
Amber Tamblyn acting as Emily acting for Edward was superb. Great fun. But
I suspect that Emily is throwing herself into Juan and his career to get away
from her family, at least in part.
This comes after the above greeting from AJ:
Juan: "I didn't realize he had gotten worse. I'm sorry."
Emily: "Look, I care about A.J., but there's a point where I give up, you know?
I just can't follow him around anymore. Anyway, don't want it to ruin good news."
Juan: "You rule."
Juan: "Are you sure you want to do this?"
Emily: "Read my lips."
