Ned: "Oh--since when do you eat grilled burgers?" Alexis: "Almost never, which is about as often as I cook them. But I figured for Eddie Maine's comeback I'm going to go whole hog or--cow. How do you like it?" Ned: "Cooked." Ned: "You know, I would have been perfectly happy with a bowl of popcorn." Alexis: "I don't know what rock stars eat. I thought beer and burgers was a safe bet." Edward: "Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! What are you trying to do, torch the whole estate? Jeez!" Ned: "There's no need to call the fire department. I have everything under
control." Alexis: "We're celebrating."
Ned: "Your hearty approval is duly noted." Edward: "Don't expect me to pretend that prancing around like a drunken-crazed teenager is something to rejoice over, huh? And you, young lady--you are a crackerjack lawyer. You are bright and you are sensible. How long before his leather-clad swagger wears thin, huh?" Alexis: "I happen to find Eddie Maine extremely sexy." Edward: "Well, then I have no sympathy for you. You know that? You both deserve each other, and you deserve all the misery that will surely follow." Alexis: "Subtle."
Arda: "I found this scene really annoying. Now I adore Nancy Lee Grahan and I especially like her comedic instincts. But I really hate it when Alexis is shown to be incompetent. We get that she doesn't like to cook--she only knows how to make popcorn. So today she was making burgers to grill. The burgers she made were a runny mess and then she dropped the mess on the grill and then burned the burgers. Why couldn't she just take Ned out to dinner? Why couldn't she buy ready-made patties if she just had to grill? I just didn't like the joke at her expense. It's fine with me that she's not domestic, but I'd like to see it as a preference--that she doesn't like to cook as opposed to she doesn't know how to cook." Amy: "It was heavy-handed, but I think her line about not knowing what rock stars ate was the key here. Alexis is quite often self-deprecating, and this seemed to be some manifestation of her doubt that she could be a good partner to Eddie Maine. I enjoyed it, if only for Alexis's trying to swat Edward with that towel." | |||||
