The Spencers:
- Laura greets Tony at the hospital; she's on her way to the women's health
center to speak to some girls about the outreach program. Once there, she runs
into Elizabeth, who covers the fact that she's there with Emily by volunteering
at the center. Later, Laura talks with a girl who was raped, and remembers a conversation
with Scotty about her own rape. (7/6)
- At Kelly's, Laura exchanges a civil greeting with her son and sits down with
Scotty. They talk with Bobbie for a moment, and Laura realizes that Scott's having
marital troubles of his own. They talk for a bit, and then she asks him for a
favor: she wants him to defend Luke. Scotty says to call him again if she can't
find anybody else. (7/7)
- Laura goes back to Jake's, where she runs into Tim again. Tammy and Mike arrive,
and Laura strikes out at Tammy for her interference. But the fun is ruined with
the reminder of her troubles, and Laura phones her mother to come and get her.
Lesley tells Laura that her troubles are not her, and suggests a vacation. (7/10)
I. No Misty Water-Colors Here (7/6)
Girl: "It's not like I was really raped."
Laura: "Did you know the man who did it?"
Girl: "My boyfriend's friend. It was probably my fault. He was around all the
time, and we'd sort of flirt. And he said--he said he knew I wanted to."
Laura: "Did you say no?"
Girl: "He wouldn't listen."
Laura: "That's--it's not your fault. It's not your fault. Come sit down."
Girl:
"I don't understand what's happening to me. I love Joey--my boyfriend. But now
when he touches me, it's just like I want to scream. And I'm so afraid of losing
him."
Laura: "Shh. It's ok. You don't have anything to be sorry for. You know that,
don't you?"
Girl: "I didn't think anyone would understand."
Laura: "I do."
Laura: "When you touch me, Scotty, my flesh crawls. When a man comes anywhere
near me now--at school, at the disco, just touches me accidentally, walks past
me, brushes--brushes against me--I--I get very sick inside."
Scott: "Laura--"
Laura: "You wanted to hear the story. Ok, you might as well hear all of it. In
our bed at night, I try to fall asleep before you get in bed or else I don't go
to bed until I know that you are already asleep. And then I go to bed in a panic
and I'm afraid that I'm going to wake you up and that you are going to turn over
and that you're going to want to reach out for me and hold me in your arms. And
I hold my breath because I'm afraid, and I'm sick inside."
