The Spencers (cont.):
Terry updates these scenes: "On cue, Bobbie appears from the back as Laura comes
to the counter and tells her about her travel plans. Laura is happy that Bobbie
and Roy are making what had been planned as their honeymoon way back when. Scotty
comes in, and Bobbie says she hopes he's okay. He's wearing a plain gray dress
shirt. Bobbie uses her deep, sickly-sweet voice to ask if he's holding up okay
since the breakup with Lucy."
"It turns out that Laura has called him, but she was unaware of what was happening
in his life on the other soap. Bobbie takes off, leaving Laura and Scott to talk.
Laura is apologetic, but Scott says he welcomes the distraction."
"Laura hesitates, then tells 'Scotty' why she called--Luke needs a lawyer
and she wants him to take the job. What is she thinking? She calls Hubbie One
to see if he could defend Hubbie Two, the man for whom she left him?"
Judy: "What is she thinking, indeed. But this does seem like something
that dear, sweet, 'oblivious-to-everyone's-needs-but-Luke's' Laura would do."
Terry continues: "We move to Scott and Laura. Laura wants someone to try to
cut a deal with the police so Luke doesn't get punished for going on the run--I
crack up. Scotty tells her he's not at his best because he's 'losing another wife.'
He doesn't, at this point, mention Christina, which seems odd to me, but it's
okay, because he talks about her in a later scene. Scotty points out that this
would have been his and Laura's wedding anniversary. They reminisce about their
wedding in the park, and I love the sense of history. Laura says she doesn't regret
their marriage, and Scotty says it was the best time of his life."
"Scotty: 'How young were we to think things would never change?' He talks
about his life post-Laura: Dominique, Serena, Lucy. Now he brings up the kidnapping
of Christina. Laura tells him he should not hold everything Lucy says against
her, and tells him about the way she lashed out at Luke in the morgue when they
thought Lucky was dead. She then returns to the reason for their meeting, asking
him if he'll reconsider and become Luke's lawyer. He tells her that if she can't
find anyone else, she should call him again. As they walk out, we see that Mike
is now at the counter. As they pass Emily and Liz, we switch our focus to the
teens."
III. Third Time is Not the Charm (7/10)
Bartender: "Double scotch, aged and smooth."
Laura: "How did you know that?"
Bartender: "Because I'm a hard drive."
Laura: "Wow. You must have an amazing memory."
Bartender: "Well, only for my customers who look as good as you do."
Tim: "You know, they should have a first-name index in the phone book."
Laura: "Oh. There are plenty of Lauras."
Tim: "Ah, yes and no."
Laura: "Thinking is no fun. Let's dance."
Laura: "I came looking for you once before."
Tim: "No, you didn't."
Laura: "I did!"
Tim: "Really?"
Laura: "I did."
Laura: "Hi. I'm--I'm--I was having a wonderful time. These are some people
from my other life, the one that I was trying to forget about tonight."
Laura:
"A friend of mine that I have recently discovered, and I would like to continue
to discover him."
Tammy: "Well, Mike and I actually had just decided to leave. Can we drop you someplace?"
Laura: "Do I look ready to go?"
Laura: "All right. She's concerned. She's such a caregiver, isn't she? Just
ask her how she took care of my husband the night of my son's funeral. You remember
that? She took care of my husband right up against a bar. And I don't mean with
this. Now, did I interrupt? Did I say anything? Did I intrude on your little--you
know, whatever that was? No, I turned around and I walked away. So why don't you
just do the same."
Tammy:
"I had no idea Laura saw me with Luke."
Mike: "That was a terrible night for a lot of people."
Tammy: "Luke was destroyed. And she's right, what she said. He needed to be held.
It was comfort. And I know that Laura doesn't believe that, but I--"
Mike: "Hey, hey--you don't have to explain to me."
Tammy: "For a little while, I helped him. And I've never been sorry. Until now."
Laura: "Hi, it's me. Um--I think I need--I think--some help."
Laura: "Hi."
Lesley: "What's up?"
Laura: "I think I'm trying to self-destruct."
Lesley: "Why, because you had one too many?"
Laura: "I had one too many on three different nights trying to forget who I am.
I don't know what's the matter with me. I really don't."
Mike:
"You were a friend when Luke needed one. You may have saved his life."
Tammy: "I just got him through the night. That's all."
Mike: "That's a hell of a lot. Let's dance."
Lesley: "You don't have to forget who you are. You have to try really hard
to remember."
Laura: "To remember? I'm the woman whose son can't stand her, whose husband and
soul mate found somebody else."
Lesley: "Now, you stop that."
Laura: "What about Stefan? What about--"
Lesley: "Uh-uh. No. This list of things--this is not you. They are your problems,
and there's a big difference, you know. You--you need to--you need to go walk
on a beach somewhere and listen to the sound of the waves and remember how much
you love life and all the wonderful qualities that make you so special."
Laura: "I guess you're right. I really am fried, aren't I?"
Lesley: "Well, that's why god invented vacations."
Laura: "I love you."
