Roy and Bobbie (cont.):
IV. A Nice View of the Minneapolis Airport (7/11)
Roy: "So, how do you like paradise so far?"
Bobbie: "So did you ask them for a picture of the first-class lounge under
construction?"
Roy: "I even mentioned I just got out of prison. They weren't intimidated."
Tony: "He tried to kill a public official to fulfill a mob contract."
Tammy: "People change."
Tony: "Now, I realize that you're partial to sonny, and I try not to hold
that against you, but, still, this is about my child."
Tammy:
"Well, now, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you make some bad choices a few
years back? And you managed to turn your life around. Now, from what I've seen,
Roy's a pretty decent guy, so why don't you just give him a chance?"
Tony: "Bobbie's a grownup. I can't tell her who to be with. But, still, Lucas
is my only child."
Bobbie: "There's nothing wrong with paying cash."
Roy: "Well, there is if you have no choice."
Bobbie: "Roy, if you want to take me someplace, then just hold my hand, because
this is where I want to be."
Roy: "This--this is not what I want for you. It's not even close."
Mike: "You know, this card game is not going to be a problem for Roy."
Tammy: "Well, then why didn't you get his ok?"
Mike: "Because the man was on his way to paradise with the woman he loves. I mean,
why hassle the guy with details?"
Bobbie: "Yeah, we got a car, too. And, you know, when I spoke to the lady,
she said that she originally remembered talking to you when you booked the whole
thing right from the beginning. She said the reason why she remembered was when
she hung up the phone she couldn't help wondering why she couldn't find a guy
just like you."
Bobbie: "We both could have brought along tons of extra baggage on this trip.
Believe me, you don't want to get me started. Now, really, what really matters
is that whether we're in Minneapolis or Maui that we just wring every last drop
of fun out of this. Ok? So, you want to come along?"
Roy: "On one condition. Do you suppose that candy person you sometimes inhabit--you
think she likes Hawaii?"
Roy: "So, what are we waiting for? Paradise is calling. We could probably
get one of those grass skirts at the airport gift shop."
Terry:
"I know I was supposed to feel sorry for Roy yesterday--no plastic, man--but I
was nitpicking again. So does the man have hundreds of dollars stuck in his wallet?
How did he plan to pay for things originally? Obviously, in cash, but how'd he
make the original reservation, then? As he points out, the reservation clerk wouldn't
give him a new reservation without plastic. Why did the original reservation not
require it, too? And I assume he had not bothered to reserve a car rental? Good
thing he's traveling with Bobbie. So what's the problem with putting things on
her card and paying for them when they get home? Methinks they should have waited
to take this vacation until they could handle it and their jobs and families were
in a more manageable place."
Amy: "Maybe he paid with a company card from Luke's? Luke prefers cash,
though. *G* And I'd assume he'd reserved a car but it wasn't held either. But
it seems to me that they're running to be happy and trying to ignore the things
that are starting to trip them up, and so the tripping will only get worse."
Joan: "Well, I agree with you all the way here, Terry, but I did have
one moment of startled pleasure in all that sulky talk. We're watching a soap
opera, right? Where people can go without jobs for decades and nobody questions
how they live. How refreshing to see a person actually dealing with the fallout
from severing a relationship where everything was provided for him. How different
is Roy's situation, really, from any woman whose marriage to her high school sweetheart
has just gone belly up. She's never had a job, no credit rating of her own. How
does she get by if she's not Carly and isn't offered the Platinum Breakup Plan?
(By the way, weren't you impressed? Sonny is the first man whose money she has
rejected out of hand. )"
Amy: "I love that. Primarily because Bobbie will never see the comparison,
and we can slap her for that, too. I'd like to see Roy figure it out, though."
