Sonny and Carly (cont.):

Carly: "Well, my mom had this friend, and she lived kind of close to a country club. So we'd take our lawn chairs and pull them up and park them on her front lawn and watch the country club's fireworks. I mean, the ones that went up really high. Because it was like--it was like they had two shows, you know? They had one for everybody, that everybody could see from far away. And then they had one that was just for the people who were at the country club. You know, it was too low for anybody else to see. But, you know, you could hear them, 'ooh, ah.' And you knew it was something really special. But, you know, it didn't matter. It was good. It was nice. What about you?"
Sonny: "I--ahem--I used to go to my neighbors' a lot, you know, the Cerullos. They used to throw these big family barbecues--aunts and uncles, hotdogs, hamburgers, baked beans, potato salad--the works."
Carly: "Hmm."
Sonny: "We'd get so full we couldn't walk. And then we'd pile in about six cars, right? Drive to the city park. We had this one place staked out. We spread the blankets out, lie on our backs. Then when it got dark, we would watch the sky come alive. Us and about 20,000 other people."

The Fourth of July memory I have of Carly comes from 1996. Everybody was out at the annual picnic, and Carly brought her blanket and wished that Jason would sit with her. But Jason was with Robin, and after he turned her away, she sat wrapped up in her blanket, rather than on it. Fitting, then, that she'd spend part of this Fourth under wraps too.

Sonny: "I know that's the big dipper. And that is the North Star."
Carly: "So that one always points north, right?"
Sonny: "I have no clue."

Carly: "And I just--you know, it occurred to me that I never--I never even notice the constellations. Which means you're right about something else."
Sonny: "Hmm?"
Carly: "This place makes you stop and take things in. You know? And I know that we have to go back and we have to go back to our lives and everything, but it'd be nice to come here again. Maybe next year. Do you think we could do that?"
Sonny: "As often as you want."
Carly: "Really? Ok."
Sonny: "You up for a walk on the beach?"
Carly: "I'd love that."
Sonny: "You need a wrap or--"
Carly: "No. If I get cold, I'll just take your shirt."
