Carly/Sonny/Angel

Sonny tells Mike how Carly had tried to kill Sorel and that he wants nothing to do with her. Mike wonders if Sonny's feelings toward Carly are colored by his feelings toward Angel, but Sonny denies having feelings toward Angel.

Meanwhile, Carly awakes in Angel's cabin. On a table, sits unnoticed the guardian angel Carly had given Sonny (and which he had left with Angel). Angel manages to hide the little figurine before Carly sees it. Carly probes about Angel's love life, and Angel tells her that she had been married but that her husband had been killed. Carly asks if she has met anyone new, and Angel tells her that she has recently met someone but that the situation is "complicated." Carly urges Angel to pursue her "Mr. Complicated" if she truly loves him, not realizing that Angel was speaking about Sonny.

Sonny confronts Angel with his discovery that she is Sorel's daughter. He accuses her of working in tandem with her father. Angel protests and tells Sonny she did not tell him the truth because she was afraid he would leave her cabin as soon as he had found and that she had wanted him to stay. She tells Sonny that if she were forced to choose between him and her father, she would pick Sonny.

Skye and AJ Set Up Carly

Carly checks into a hotel room. Skye arrives, having been summoned by Carly so they could discuss how they can keep AJ away from Michael. Carly begins to have doubts and says it really wasn't a good idea for her to have called Skye after all. Skye attempts to get on Carly's side. AJ arrives and he and Skye get into a staged argument. Carly does not seem to realize that she is being set up. Outside the hotel room, Skye and AJ congratulate each other.

Angel Visits Sorel

Sorel asks Angel to visit him and Angel arrives with flowers, hopeful that her father wants to make amends. Sorel, however, reiterates his hatred for Sonny and tells her that Sonny will die. Angel offers to do anything to spare Sonny's life. As they argue, Sorel begins to have trouble breathing. Angel calmly watches, not doing anything to help her father. A nurse comes to Sorel's aid and Angel leaves.

Angel goes to Luke's where Roy realizes that she is Sorel's daughter. They speak about Donny Ellis (who had been in prison with Roy) and Sorel. Angel fears that as long as her father has any power at all, he will hurt people. Roy comments that the solution may be to make sure that power goes away. Shortly thereafter, Roy leaves Luke's saying he has something to do. Angel follows him out.

Threats

Bobbie shows Carly a threatening note from Sorel delivered to the Brownstone. Bobbie suggests that they call Mac or Taggert, but Carly refuses and rushes to see Sonny at the coffee warehouse. Sonny tells her that everything is under control, but Carly wants to know details. AJ, who had been eavesdropping outside Sonny's office, confronts Carly and demands to have Michael back. Carly does not give in.

The Qs are horrified to hear of another attempt on Emily's life. Someone had broken into her room, but another unknown man had come to her rescue and had thrown the intruder out of the window. Alan goes to the hospital to tell Zander, while AJ goes to check on Michael. Monica makes calls to find a new facility for Emily. Monica then lashes at Skye comparing her to Tracy. Skye fights back saying that although she is not fond of Rae, Monica is not even in the same league as Rae.

Alan gives Zander the news about the attempt on Emily's life. Zander makes his way to Sorel's room and threatens to kill Sorel. Sonny and Alan intervene and drag Zander away. Alan accuses Sonny of trying to use Zander to do his dirty work. Sonny retorts that his main concern is to keep Emily and Zander safe, and that it was one of his men who had thrown Emily's intruder out of the window. Sonny reminds Zander to never get his own hands dirty. Zander insists that someone needs to kill Sorel and Sonny says, "Someone will." Sonny leaves. Zander knocks over a jar full of tongue depressors.

Sonny pulls aside the guard outside Sorel's door, who informs him that Sorel could be out of the way as early as tomorrow. On his way out of the hospital, Sonny notices one of his men entering the hospital and they nod to each other.

Alan returns to Sorel's room and warns Sorel: "You're at my mercy, and I have none." Alan walks away promising that Emily will not live another night in danger from Sorel.

Melissa (on the same damn day she ran out of gas, broke into a gas station and talked her way out after being caught, learned how to put up a tent, wrote her troubles on pieces of paper and burned them, was menaced by a bear, and hot-wired a car) returns to the hospital to work.

An emergency patient is found to carry photos of Carly, Michael, Emily, and Zander. Melissa shows them to Roy who theorizes that the man must be a hitman working for Sorel. Melissa threatens the patient with an "accident" with his IV tubes and he tells her that as soon as his boss knows that he was unsuccessful, he'll just send out another hitman. Melissa sedates him to prevent him from reporting to Sorel that his mission was unsuccessful. Melissa sees Carly in the hospital and shows her the picture of Michael that the hitman was carrying. AJ observes this hiding behind a curtain. Carly is frantic and rushes away, promising to stop Sorel from getting to Michael. She runs into Mike who is in the emergency ward because he has burned his hand. Carly tells him about the threat to Michael from Sorel and Mike tries to calm her down. Carly scatters coins on the floor as she places a call to Leticia to check on Michael.

Melissa goes to Sorel's room and introduces herself to him as Leo's sister. She asks him why he killed her brother. Sorel responds that Melissa doesn't want him as an enemy. Sorel gasps for breath and Melissa calmly informs him that he's suffocating because she turned off his respirator:

Sorel: I can't breathe.
Melissa: Well, of course you can't breathe, Mr. Sorel. I turned off your respirator. You're suffocating. Actually, it's the same way Leo died. Some of the knife wounds penetrated his lungs and he basically drowned in his own body. How does that feel?

Monica comes in and asks Melissa what she's doing. Melissa claims that she was just cleaning the suction tubes. Monica asks her to leave and not come back to Sorel's room. However, once left alone, Monica, too, taunts Sorel:

Monica: Mr. Sorel, you seem to have some difficulty breathing.

Monica: We need to wean you off the respirator, Mr. Sorel. That means you have to breathe on your own for a time. I'm awfully sorry if it's uncomfortable, but it's nothing compared to a broken back, now, is it? The agony of a broken back, the pain and the frustration of trying to learn to walk again--oh, that doesn't compare to that. You must be really thrilled that Emily is in a wheelchair, huh? So easily she can be terrorized. But, you know, you do have a point. There is something to be said about a victim that can't run away.

I loved the delivery of both Jensen Buchanan and Leslie Charleson in the above scenes. The contrast between the calm, exquisite bedside manner and what Melissa and Monica said was very effective.

Sorel's Moments Are Numbered

A montage begins with Sarah Brightman in the background singing ''Figlio Perduto," a piece from Beethoven's Seventh Symphony to which lyrics have been subsequently added. The camera moves from coffee dripping into a coffee pot to a drip in a medical instrument to a water drip from a faucet to a drink being poured. Outside Luke's, Angel rips off her neck a pearl necklace her father had given her. Sonny is pacing in his office with a drink. Mike is seen in a close up and then seen walking down a hall in the hospital. Melissa washes her face and pulls on surgical gloves. Roy is shown coming into the hospital and putting some surgical gloves in his pocket. Sonny's hit man changes into medical garb and gloves. Monica gets off the elevator at the 10th floor (where Sorel is). Carly goes up the stairwell to the 10th floor. AJ gets off the elevator at the 10th floor, and Monica observes him. Zander gets out of bed and pulls tubes off his body. Alan is seen reviewing Sorel's medical file. Someone enters Sorel's room. Sorel, who had been lying motionless, opens his eyes and looks terrified. He frantically reaches for the call button, but drops the cord, setting off a vase with flowers which falls down and shatters.

I thought the montage was well done, though the combined imagery of the dripping fluids and falling items was a bit over-handed. In addition to the imagery in the montage, throughout the episode, various characters were shown dropping things. Angel dropped pretzels while talking to Roy at Luke's, Carly dropped a photo and then coins as she tried to make a phone call, Zander dropped a container of tongue depressors, and a container of water fell over when Alan pulled Zander away from Sorel.
