General Hospital Review

August 1st began a new day in Port Charles. On the prior day (episodes of July 23 - July 31), Lucky had injected Luke with Helena's virus, Alan and Skye had reconciled at the AA meeting, and Carly had told Sonny that she is pregnant.

Day 1: Episodes of August 1 - August 7 (five episodes)

Carly Is Not Pregnant

Sonny asks Carly to have a pregnancy test. Carly agrees but spends most of the day putting off the test. For Bobbie's birthday, she decorates the Brownstone with a banner reading "Happy Birthday Grandma." When Bobbie notices that Carly has not even opened the pregnancy test kit, she pleads with Carly to not delude herself. Carly insists that she knows she's pregnant, but goes to the hospital for the test.

At the hospital, she runs into both Angel and Sonny who pretend to not know one another. Angel goes to see Sorel who, unable to speak, signals for a pad and pencil. He hands her a page with the word "traitor" written on it.

Carly is devastated when the test reveals that she is not pregnant. She finds Sonny looking at babies in the hospital nursery. When he asks her if she's pregnant, she lies that she doesn't have the test results yet and rhapsodizes about having a little girl and what a good father Sonny would be. Bobbie, who had earlier spoken to Dr. Meadows, comes by and reveals to Sonny that Carly knows that she is not pregnant. Sonny is furious with Carly who begs him to understand and forgive her. Sonny insists that their marriage is over. To prove her love for Sonny, Carly runs into Sorel's room and unplugs his respirator. Sonny runs in after Carly, followed by Angel who had been eavesdropping on Sonny and Carly. The alarm brings in Tony Jones who plugs the respirator back in and throws everyone out of the room. When Tony asks what had happened, Angel lies saying that she had tripped on the cord. Carly begins to storm off after Sonny refuses to consider forgiving her. Carly runs into Angel at the elevator and talks her into letting her stay at her cabin for the night.

Kristen's Necklace

Alexis is caught attempting to take back her mother's necklace from Helena. Alexis next asks Sonny to help her steal the necklace, but he refuses to endanger her legal license. Alexis is caught again as she tries to steal the necklace a second time (on the same day!) from the auction room where the necklace is now displayed. Ned comes to her rescue by telling the security staff that he had asked Alexis to attempt the theft in order to test the security system. Ned tries to find out why the necklace is so important to Alexis, but she does not divulge her secret. Alexis returns to the area outside the auction room along with Stefan and Taggert with a court order to stop the sale of the necklace. Helena argues that the necklace is part of the Cassadine estate to be auctioned. While the Cassadines bicker, a masked figure in black descends from the roof into the room where the necklace is and steals it. The thief is later revealed to be Jax. The Cassadines are shocked to discover the necklace missing and accuse one another of the theft. Later, at home, Alexis brings out a box from the closet and eyes a necklace that looks just like the one that had been stolen.

Felicia Finds Luke But Doesn't Find Happiness

Felicia, who had been looking for Luke the prior night, stops by Luke's apartment but finds Lucky there instead. Lucky is dazed and repeatedly tells Felicia that Luke is "gone." When Lucky says that he had "taken the King to protect the Queen," Felicia realizes that "Queen" refers to Helena and heads to confront her on her yacht. Helena teases Felicia, but eventually gives her a clue that leads Felicia to the docks.

In an alley, Felicia finds an unconscious Luke. Her initial relief turns to disbelief and rage when Luke wakes up and begins to insult and ridicule her. (What Felicia doesn't know, but the audience does, is that Helena's drug has caused a personality split in Luke.) While Luke insults Felicia, his reasonable self urges the altered personality to behave. But Felicia is hurt and storms off, along with Mac who happens by. Felicia decides to leave town for a while to visit Mariah in Texas.

Lucky Pushes and Elizabeth Pulls

Elizabeth confronts Helena and demands that she tell her where Lucky is. Helena, of course, declines. As Elizabeth exits Helena's yacht, she runs into Felicia, who tells her that she had just left Lucky at Luke's apartment. Elizabeth arrives at Luke's apartment and is disheartened to find that Helena's programming has overpowered Lucky once again. He begs her to leave him because he is afraid that he might hurt her just as he has hurt his father. Elizabeth tries to convince him that their love will protect them and keep them safe. But Lucky persists in pushing her away, and she reluctantly leaves. She finds Sonny at the hospital and asks for his help. He declines to help her stating that he does not want to enter into matters that involve Luke.

Later, Lucky is kidnapped from Luke's apartment. Lucky next appears in one of Sonny's safe houses and he discovers that it was Elizabeth who had him kidnapped.

I was bewildered by a couple of things. 1)How did Elizabeth know to find Sonny in the hospital, and 2) how did Sonny come to help her after he declined to help her? My second question points to one of the irritants in the show. Pointless red herrings, such as Sonny declining to help, but later changing his mind, which we do not see and find out after the fact.

Luke Returns to His Apartment

After Felicia leaves him in the alley, Luke goes to his apartment to find Lucky there. In his drugged state, Luke alternates between being rude and loving to Lucky. Just as it appears that Luke is beginning to comprehend what has happened, two thugs burst in and kidnap Lucky.

Helena arrives to find Luke crawling around the apartment in his drugged stupor. She relishes the sight of her enemy in this state. Luke alternates again between being focused on trying to obtain information from Helena and succumbing to the altered ego. Luke begins to seduce Helena, who doesn't object, as Stavros appears at the door and chastises his mother. Stavros tries to obtain information from Luke about Nikolas and his recent return to the Cassadines, but Luke is incoherent. Stavros and Helena leave, proud of their handiwork.

Gia and Nikolas

Gia goes to the cottage to pick up her mail and runs into Nikolas. It's apparent, despite their denials, that they both still love one another. Gia tells Nikolas that she has a new boyfriend but refuses to supply Nikolas with any details (not that Gia knows very much about Lucien/Stavros). Their conversation is interrupted by Elizabeth. Gia leaves and calls Lucien and invites him to attend the auction. He readily agrees.

Chloe and Stefan

Chloe is surprised at work by a visit from Stefan. He tells Chloe about his misgivings about Nikolas returning to the Cassadine family by aligning with Helena. Chloe is attentive and seems to genuinely care about Stefan. He reaches to kiss her and she responds.

The Quartermaines

The Qs are taking turns maligning Skye when Alan comes in and tells the family that Skye is staying permanently. Lila tells the family that although what Skye did (helping Emily escape and lie about it) was wrong, they have all done equally terrible things. Edward and Ned tell Skye that she will never be a part of the family. After they leave, AJ and Skye continue to bond and discuss their plan to get Michael back from Carly.

Skye visits Carly at the Brownstone in her continued attempt to befriend her and obtain information. Carly tells her that she's pregnant and that she and Sonny are getting back together. Skye reports the news to an unhappy AJ.

Bobbie/Roy/Melissa

Melissa and Roy are caught over Sorel's bed by Tony, and are thrown out of the room. Tony tells Melissa (who had been warned to stay away from Sorel's room) that in view of her previous lapses of judgment, her position at General Hospital is endangered and that she needs to attend a meeting in Alan's office. After Melissa leaves, Bobbie asks Roy why Melissa had walked out of the OR during Sorel's surgery and Roy tells her that it was Sorel who had ordered Leo killed. Melissa is about to be fired by Alan, when Bobbie comes in and confesses that it was she who had misplaced the files and had set up Melissa to take the blame. Melissa thanks Bobbie for speaking up, and Bobbie says she did it to clear her conscience. Roy hears from Melissa that Bobbie had come to her defense. He thanks Bobbie and wishes her a happy birthday.
