The Cassadines (cont.):
I. The Yacht Party Continues (7/17, 7/18)
Helena: "Well, I think I must've been a ship's captain in my former life."
Jax: "Or a pirate."
Helena: "You don't mind if I hold on to Jax for a while."
Chloe: "As long as you remember he's not for keeps."
Helena: "I'll try."
Helena: "Well, this is--this is a very sad occasion for me. As you all know,
general hospital was very close to my dear son's heart. And now that he's gone--I'm
sure if he were here, he would want me to carry on with his work. And naturally,
as his mother, I'm most anxious to do exactly as Stefan would have wished. But
I'm sure you all understand that I must look out for the Cassadine family interests.
So I've asked you all here tonight to help me find an answer to a very difficult
question. Why should the Cassadines continue to support General Hospital?"
Helena: "Jax, we could use your input over here."
Jax: "Oh, you know, I just donate money. I leave the rest to the experts."
Helena:
"But you do understand that as the trustee of the Cassadine estate, I'm in an
untenable position."
Alexis: "Liar, liar, pants on fire."
Helena: "Alexis."
Alexis: "I'm terribly sorry to inform you that you have all been brought here
under false pretenses. You see, Helena is not now, nor has she ever been, the
Cassadine family trustee. And she never will be."
Helena:
"Well, Alexis, I didn't mean to exclude you from our little gathering."
Alexis: "Like hell you didn't."
Edward: "This sounds like a Quartermaine breakfast."
Alexis: "Unfortunately, Nikolas couldn't be here this evening. His invitation
apparently got lost in the mail as well."
Alexis: "Stefan held that position until his disappearance. But today Nikolas
met with the estate's attorneys, and they have appointed me his trustee."
Helena:
"Well, I'm afraid Alexis has spoken too soon. The truth is that Alexis has been
trying to manipulate Nikolas for some time, but his attorneys are aware of this.
And they've assured me that I will be named trustee. The papers have been filed
already."
Helena: "This is not a matter for levity."
Edward: "Believe me, Helena, no one is laughing."
Edward: "I have spent the last two hours on this tugboat charming the wrong
woman. And as my granddaughter would say, I'm out of here."
Helena: "Well, Alexis, still loitering?"
Alexis: "I'm a party animal."
Alexis: "You know that's not evidence. There's no body. Just a bunch of unexplainable
dreams. That would never stand up in court. That's not evidence. And yet I know
that she's right. And the poison? That's perfect--perfect symmetry. Because he
did it to her, she does it to him. That's what the people in my family do to each
other."
Alexis: "Are you trying to get me to have hope? Did you forget that I'm a
Cassadine? I don't know how. I do know that everything that she said is exactly
the way that it happened. I know that she couldn't have--she couldn't have made
it up."
Jax: "She didn't."
Alexis: "Then my brother's dead."
Arda: "I was glad to see the Qs and hospital staff invited to Helena's
yacht. It never was clear why Helena invited Jax and Chloe, but it was nice to
see characters we almost never see together on the same set at the same time.
And it was good to see so many characters together at Luke's. I just wish we had
new conversations. We still had Hannah and Taggart discussing AJ and Sonny, Carly
and Bobbie had the same conversations, Carly and Hannah had the same catfight.
Doesn't anybody change or grow up?"
"I'm not happy with GH these days, and I think most of the blame can
be placed with the writer(s). I'm pretty much convinced that what I've loved in
the last few years has been Mulcahey and not Guza. With the daily scripts mostly
unimpressive, Guza is looking more and more clumsy to me. I was not a huge fan
of Claire Labine--too sentimental for my taste--and I've loved a lot of the things
Guza has done: the return of the Cassadines, the rape revisited, the character
of Carly, Lucky's death. But something seems really off these days. Maybe I just
can't handle GH without Geary. But I think it's more than that. With Geary
and Francis gone, there was a good opportunity to bring the Qs back to the foreground
or give something interesting to Alexis. Instead we get Chloe and Jax and the
teen story which started out interesting but has really stalled. I imagine (hope)
it'll get better."
Terry: "Usually we fall into these doldrums in August. They're early
this year. Half the cast is on the vacation, and rather than use that as an excuse
to engage the other half in front-burner showcases, they get trapped in 'vamping
and waiting' stuff. Hate it."
