Letter from the Editor
by Amy McWilliams
Welcome to the General Hospital Review!
I'm excited about this issue because everybody wrote something! Terry
has covered the month of June with thorough summary and wonderful commentary,
while Turner has taken on the vampires over on Port Charles. Arda disects
a recent scene between Carly and Melissa in our new column, "GH in
Focus," while Joan goes for dream analysis in "And Another Thing..."
In "A Study in Character," I think about the ways I react to a character's
first entrance and focus on the introduction and development of Gia. And in "Quick
Takes," Terry, Joan, and Judy wax Cassadine while I take up the Spencer standard
with a note about Luke. We've got a new poll, reader mail (if you wrote in with
a question, check in to see if your answer is there!), and lots of goodies in
"Say Cheese!" And don't miss the websites featured towards the bottom
of this page.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy!
GH in Review: June is Bustin' Out All Over
by Teresa Leslie
Terry's review of June breaks the month down by character group, covering the
Nurses' Ball and offering extensive commentary on the Spencer/Cassadine story.
Turns out I'm going to skip March after all. But I'll still work at getting
some photos from recent months up in "Say Cheese" as we go along.
Thanks go to the daily updates from the official
ABC website. Thanks also to everybody on the GH side of the Usenet
newsgroup rec.arts.tv.soaps.abc for their discussion of the show, and to the other
editors, whose discussion always informs my own opinions and makes the show so
much more fun to watch.
GH in Review: June
Turner's back with his take on Port Charles's newest novella, "Tainted
Love." He runs down who's been naughty and nice, and gives an overview of
the action on the little soap that could.
PC in Review
When we decided to strike the episode-by-episode listing of events from the
review format, I wanted to find ways to balance the overview with the details.
The other editors have done a fabulous job in their reviews of including both,
but it's sometimes hard to spend as much time as you want on a single scene when
you're responsible for the whole month. Our newest column gives us a way to single
out particular episodes or scenes for analysis outside of the review. Arda starts
us off with a scene between Carly and Melissa, critiquing the dialogue as well
as the way information's been getting around in the Chuckles lately.
GH in Focus
Never one to mince words, Joan's opinion column lets her voice her not-always-popular
observations on our show. This time, she sets out to prove what was good about
the recent stand-alone episode that found all of Port Charles dreaming.
"And Another Thing..."
This column focuses on a particular character; this time, however, I consider
a variety of characters. With all of the new additions to the cast, I've been
thinking about the way I respond to newcomers, especially in a character's initial
scenes. With Gia as my focus, I talk about the things I look for in a new character,
and why Gia has turned out to be a character I'm glad stuck around.
A Study in Character
Quick Takes
This feature offers short comments by our editors on a variety of topics. This
time, Judy, Terry, Joan, and I are talking Cassadines and Spencers.
Quick Takes
Say Cheese!
There's something for just about everybody in the selections for this month, from
Carly shooting Tony in court to a gorgeous wallpaper of Sonny.

Reader Mail
This month we answer two repeated questions from our inbox, and share a letter
we got in defense of Lucky.

Reader Poll
We've talked in general about favorite characters new and old, and now we're getting
a little more specific. This time, tell us the name of your favorite Cassadine.
We'll do another family next time, so if you have a favorite family you'd like
to see in the spotlight sooner rather than later, let us know.

Featured Websites
Our websites this month focus on characters from GH and PC. The
first we've planned to feature since the webmaster wrote in after last month's
issue and let us know about it. It appears that at the time this issue goes online,
the page will be under construction, but I'm going to trust that the renovation
will be quick and feature the site anyway. Since I haven't seen the new design,
I can't comment on it, but from what I've seen of the site in the past, the webmaster
does really nice work. The site is devoted to the new actress playing Carly Corinthos,
Tamara Braun, and offers all the usual material as well as some nice extras.
Tamara Braun Online
One of the editors suggest we try to find an Elton site to feature in this
issue, and I thought I'd go them one better. T'n'T have a section of their site
that profiles many of the supporting actors on GH and PC, including
Loren Freeman (Elton), Stephen T. Kay (Reginald), Michael O'Connell (Officer Rick),
and Denise Galik-Furey (Rhonda Wexler). They plan to add more profiles in the
future. We applaud their dedication to small but not insignificant roles!
