| I. AJ Learns that His Brother is Home
(9/5)
A.J.: "Well, didn't you think that I'd be glad to know that my baby-stealing
brother was back in town?"
A.J.:
"Would you just stop it? Stop with the charade. The golden boy's back in town.
And what you all really want is for him to walk through that door and tell you
that he loves you. It's not going to happen. Small satisfaction, but I'll take
it."
Edward: "Now, look, if you don't like what's happened here, you have nobody
to blame but yourself. Your drinking is what took Jason away from this family,
and I will be damned if I will stand by and watch you wallow in self-pity one
second longer. Give me that."
A.J.: "I didn't take Jason away from this family. If he hadn't been in that accident,
you'd have screwed him up and driven him out of this house anyway. Only you wouldn't
have me to blame for it."
Alan:
"A.J.'s right. I did favor Jason, and now it's led to this."
Monica: "Come on. Don't be so hard on yourself."
Alan: "No matter how angry or disappointed that you ever got at A.J., he never
doubted for a second that you loved him. Now, I can't make that claim. If I'd
been a better father--"
Edward: "Now, just stop it! You two have blamed yourselves long enough. There
comes a time in a child's life when he has to stop looking to his parents for
his bad behavior. Nobody is holding A.J.'s mouth to this bottle."
Monica: "That's true."
Alan: "Well, one thing I do know is that A.J.'s the only one who can turn this
around."
Monica: "The problem is he just doesn't want to."
Edward: "Of course he doesn't. He's enjoying himself. A.J. thrives on making everyone
around him miserable."
Alan:
"I'm scared to death that Jason's return's going to push him straight over the
edge."
Edward: "So, how do you propose that we fix it? Ask Jason to turn around and leave?
Hmm?"
Jason: "First, you kill Carly's and Sonny's baby. Now you're working on
killing yourself?"
A.J.: "I'm touched by your concern. But watch it. You're starting to sound like
a Quartermaine."
Jason: "I could care less if you drown in a bottle under the nearest table. I
just don't want you taking anyone I care about with you."
A.J.:
"You know, I'm really glad we ran into each other because there's two questions
that have really been bugging me ever since you left. One, do I still feel guilty
for the accident that scrambled your brain? And, two, is there any microscopic
shred of love left for my golden brother? But, hey, after seeing you now, the
answers are crystal clear. One, no. Two--I simply hate your guts."
Alan: "Look, I'm telling you from experience--unless A.J. Wants to solve
his own problem, nothing will change."
Monica: "Until then, all we can do is pray that he's a lot stronger than we think
he is."
A.J.:
"You know, I used to have days when I was actually tortured with guilt over your
accident. Oh, come on, Jason, you remember. I used to pray for you to forgive
me, that one day you'd love me again. But now, it's all gone, every last bit of
it. So, hey, I guess we now have something in common. You see, you look at me
and see nothing. I look at you and see a self-absorbed, self-absolved punk."
Jason: "Whatever."
A.J.: "You--you played me against my wife, you steal my son, and then you scurry
off to help your pal Sonny dig up dirt on me so that he can threaten me with prison."
Jason: "You hired an arsonist, A.J. You took a chance, and you lost."
A.J.: "Yeah, you really think you're above everything, don't you?"
Jason: "You can hate me all you want. Just don't hurt another person I love."
II. Family Breakfast (9/6)
Alan: "You're hurt because Jason hasn't paid you a visit."
Edward: "Jason is a wandering hood. And if he can't be bothered to visit his mother
or his grandmother, then to hell with him."
Monica: "He'll probably come around when he's sure that you're not here."
