Letter from the Editor
by Amy McWilliams
Welcome to the General Hospital Review!
Fall just becomes nuttier for all of us with every passing week, but here
we finally are with our anniversary issue! We can't believe it, but here we are
starting our third year of the GHR. We thank all of you who have been around
since the beginning, and everybody else who joined us along the way. I also want
to thank Ruby, Adrian, Julia, and all the other writers we've published along
the way. Most of all, my love goes out to Arda, Joan, Judy, and Terry. I couldn't
do this without them, nor would I want to. You guys are the best.
In the next few issues, we'll be introducing some new things and spiffing
up some old items that have been spending their own share of time on the backburner.
This month, we include our first video clips in our "Say Cheese!" selection, and
next month the review of July episodes will mark the beginning of screen captures
included with each page of the review. Meanwhile, the "Readers' Poll" is back,
and we hope that you'll take time both to check the box and send along a response
to our feedback form. I'll be pushing to get the review caught up to its typical
2 months behind instead of 4, and I'm going to try to do it without cutting any
months this year. So we may be streamlined, but we thank you for your patience.
Hang in there, and we might just get around to all of it. *G*
Amidst all the changes, additions, and resolutions, our writers continue to
come up with features that amaze me. This month, Judy has come up with what may
be my favorite piece yet (though the Chexmix piece that started my adoration of
her writing still remains in the top slot, of course). This time, she takes on
one of my new favorite books in her multi-chaptered "What's Cookin' on the Backburner"
entry. You'll have to read it to believe it. We also have a surprise entry from
Mrs. Amanda Barrington, who asked if we might mention the upcoming publication
of the Port Charles Charity Cookbook; we're glad to include an excerpt
here. Remember, you can buy your copy starting in November at the PCPD, General
Hospital, or the Charity Guild offices in the Baldwin Building.
In addition, we have featured webpages, the month of June in "GH in Review,"
and lots of things to download in "Say Cheese!" Oh, and the graphic this month
features scenes from the past year. While we couldn't fit everybody in, we hope
we hit some of your favorites.
So enjoy, and as a certain executive producer might say, thanks for reading!
GH in Review
by Amy McWilliams
This month's review covers the month of June on GH. The transcript
page is missing an episode here or there, but our discussion and the outline of
events should fill in the gaps. Meanwhile, there's a little less commentary from
me this time around, in between the quotes and the discussion; it's simply a catch-up
measure this month and we'll be back to normal next time.
As always, thanks go to the GH
Transcripts Page. I depend on it as well as the daily updates from the official
ABC website and r.a.t.s.a. Thanks also to everybody on the GH side
of the Usenet newsgroup rec.arts.tv.soaps.abc for their discussion of the show,
and to the other editors, whose discussion always informs my own opinions and
makes the show so much more fun to watch.

What's Cookin' on the Backburner: Harried Plotter and the Sorting Shorts
by Judy Ellison
Judy's outdone herself this time. Her take on the Harry Potter
books is a delightful look at our outgoing headwriter, Robert Guza, Jr. We love
you Bob, because of and despite everything. Our best wishes go with you, and the
chexmix is on us.

From the Files: Port Charles Charity Guild Cookbook
edited by Amanda Barrington
By sheer serendipity, we were able to receive an advance copy of the soon-to-be-published
Port Charles Charity Guild Cookbook. To ensure that we don’t spoil your
pleasure, we take just a peek at the extraordinary cuisine of Port Charles and
bring you a few recipes to sample.

Readers' Poll
Come weigh in on our brand new poll! Let us know who your favorite backburner
character is; the top two will go on next month to take on new challengers! After
you vote, come back to our feedback form and write in to tell us the reason your
favorite is your favorite. We'll post answers in a future issue.

Featured Websites
This month, we're featuring two sites devoted to actors on our shows.
Our first choice is a wonderful site devoted to my new favorite over on Port
Charles, Thorsten Kaye. His official site features video and screen captures
updated regularly, biography, information on his other endeavors, postcards, a
message board, and much more. The page is beautifully designed, and run by three
of the nicest webmistresses you'll ever meet. I couldn't pass up the chance to
feature this page as soon as I'd found it.

Official Thorsten Kaye Website
Our other featured site is one I hadn't seen before this month. Always on
the lookout for good Quartermaine sites, this one was brought to our attention
by a reader and by the webmaster. "Billy Warlock Online" is dedicated to the actor
who plays AJ Quartermaine. While the layout has some minor trouble on my screen,
the navigation is good and clear, and the content is solid. Along with articles
and photos from ABC and the press, this page offers reports of fan encounters
as well as quotes and transcripts. The page is just getting started, and I look
forward to seeing it grow.

As always, if you would like to recommend a site for recognition in a future
issue, you can do so at the feedback form.
