The Scorpios:
- As they finish their conversation, Taggert brings the news that Ted Wilson's
car has been found, but there's still no sign of the man himself. Later, Dara
checks in, and Mac tells her that this would have been his and Felicia's anniversary.
Dara tells him to go after his family the way he would go after a case, and after
she leaves, he phones his girls at the ranch. (7/24)
- Taggert and Dara talk about Mac, and agree that the case against Luke won't
stick given Mac's behavior. Taggert tries to talk to Mac about it, warn him that
there will be questions, and asks him to take himself off the case. Instead, Mac
puts Taggert off the case. (7/26)
I. Happy Anniversary, Mac (7/24)
Dara: "Look, Mac, you haven't been out of this building all day. I'll take
you out to dinner, ok? I'll even let you pay."
Mac: "Thanks, but, you know, if it were any other night I'd accept. Today was
Felicia and my anniversary. Work helps."
Mac: "You know, I keep thinking about this young officer who's missing. Probably
dead. You know, this guy's got his whole life in front of him, and now it's over.
Compared to him, I tell myself I'm a lucky man. I mean, I may not recognize my
life, but at least I have one."
Dara: "Mac, what do you see happening when they come back?"
Mac: "An amicable divorce, if possible."
Dara:
"Let me ask you a tough question. What do you want more--to nail Luke Spencer
and put him in prison for the next two decades or for Felicia to rediscover her
feelings for you and why she married you in the first place and get back what
you, the girls, and Felicia felt two years ago this time?"
Mac: "So you're doing a lot of horseback riding. That's great. Yeah, I hear
her back here. Put her on. Hi, Georgie. You made me a coffee mug? Well, I can't
wait to see it. Mommy? Yeah, I'll talk to mommy. Hi, Felicia. Busy. Sounds like
things are better there. Yeah, I know what day today is. Yeah. Hey, you know what?
Someone just came in. I got to get going. Ok. Yeah, take care."
II. Taggert Tries and Intervention (7/26)
Dara: "The people vs. Luke Spencer. I have a lot of problems with this."
Taggert: "Mac thinks that Luke set up a meeting with Stefan, poisoned him,
and then threw the body overboard."
Dara: "I've sat through movie plots that track better than that."
Dara: "You really believe this new evidence that Mac just happened to turn
up?"
Taggert: "He had a hunch. It paid off."
Dara: "But who is doing the investigating? Is it Mac the police commissioner or
a jealous husband looking for revenge?"
Taggert: "You know, I've asked myself that question."
Dara: "He could be framing Luke without even knowing that he's doing it."
Taggert: "No, no, no. Mac is convinced he's right. I know that for a fact."
Dara: "Well, what are we going to do about it? Because his reputation and his
career are going to gone."
Taggert: "Or Luke could go to prison for a crime he didn't commit."
Taggert:
"Yeah, it's pretty convenient how they turned up in Luke's stuff after all this
time, isn't it?"
Mac: "I hope you're not suggesting that I planted evidence to frame Luke."
Taggert: "I think it's a question you'd better be prepared to answer, sir."
Taggert: "You want justice done, sir? Take yourself off the case."
Mac: "And do what, Taggert? Put you in charge instead, I suppose?"
Taggert: "Someone impartial."
Mac: "No, Taggert, I think you're the one with the serious problem. You are off
this case as of now. I'm putting Garcia in charge instead. I don't want you anywhere
near this investigation. Is that clear?"
Taggert: "Perfectly."
