DECEPTION REOPENS ITS DOORS
After a two-year hiatus from the industry following the sudden death of former
CEO Katherine Bell, Deception Cosmetics is poised to reopen under the co-leadership
of Laura Spencer and Carly Corinthos. Former owner Scott Baldwin, uninterested
in running the business himself, sold the company to Spencer hoping she would
revive the line.
"Ah, that's all girlie stuff anyway," said Baldwin, "what the heck would I
know about it?"
Spencer, in turn, took on Corinthos as a partner, as part of an agreement
with her lender, who wishes to remain anonymous.
"Yeah, he's real generous like that, you know," said Corinthos, of the lender.
"But I wish he'd let go of his one percent; 'cause I can give him one hundred
percent, if you know what I mean."
"Mrs. Corinthos is referring to the division of ownership in the company,"
clarified Spencer. "I have fifty percent of the decision-making power, while she
has forty-nine percent."
"Oh, yeah. Like, you haven't rubbed that in enough," retorted Corinthos. "I
have to hear about that freakin' one percent every single damn day."
When questioned about how this unusual division of ownership will affect the
new Face of Deception campaign, both women were uncharacteristically silent.
"I think it's safe to say that they have no comment at this time," offered
Baldwin. "But I can tell you that it's been pretty darned entertaining."
"Don't get out much, do you?" remarked Corinthos.
Although the Face of Deception is a nod to the company's past, there will
be some changes in store for Deception's products and for the company itself,
the most major among them being a new commitment to earth-friendly ingredients
and production. "And, of course, all of our products will be cruelty-free," Spencer
added. "There will be absolutely no animal testing done here."
"But there might be a whole lot of testing done on some ex-husbands," quipped
Baldwin, which brought a snort of laughter from both Corinthos and Spencer. Apparently,
this is one subject upon which both women can finally agree.
