Letter from the Editor
by Amy McWilliams

Welcome to the General Hospital Review!

We can't believe it, but we're starting our fourth year here at the GHR. We'd like to thank all of our readers, old and new, and especially all of you who've sent in comments and suggestions over the years. We've changed our look and adjusted our content a few times, but we've always enjoyed sharing with you our opinions on General Hospital and, sometimes, Port Charles.

Personally, I'd like to thank again--because I don't do it often enough--the four women who have been with me since I started this project. Arda, Joan, Judy, and Terry have all made time for this site when they really didn't have any to give, and for that I am eternally grateful. More importantly, they have become dear friends to me. Thanks, you guys, for another good year.

Big thanks (and a smooch) to Turner Arrington, who signed on this year to write for us, primarily covering Port Charles (but rumor has it he'll be writing on GH as well in the near future). Thanks also to the others who have contributed to these pages over the years. It's always good to hear another voice added to our five.

In fact, we have a new voice this month. We've published at least one letter to the editor from Matthew Weaver in the past, and he recently submitted an article that we absolutely loved. We hope you'll enjoy it too; Matthew writes in praise of Pierce Dorman in our "Now and Then" column. Arda and Terry review the month of September, while Joan shares her hopes for the character of Alexis in her "And Another Thing..." column. Finally, I'm still behind but catching up a little, and I wanted to share a few thoughts from along the way--a few "Quick Takes" as I come late to the party. And, as usual, we have a selection of multimedia goodies in "Say Cheese!" a new poll, and and new featured websites. The photos that appear in the banner to the left come from scenes from the past year.

Thanks for reading, and enjoy!

GH in Review: September, Parts 1 and 2
by Arda Darakjian Clark and Teresa Leslie

Arda and Terry split September between them in this review, with Arda covering two days of time in Port Charles and the episodes through September 18th, and Terry rounding out the month.

Thanks go to the daily updates from the official ABC website. Thanks also to everybody on the GH side of the Usenet newsgroup rec.arts.tv.soaps.abc for their discussion of the show, and to the other editors, whose discussion always informs my own opinions and makes the show so much more fun to watch.

"And Another Thing...": Sexis-ual Healing
by Joan Roseman

Joan's back with her opinion column this month, and she's considering the character of Alexis Davis--and why it is that the writers seem to think Alexis can't have brains and a love life at the same time.

Now and Then: Pierce Dorman: The Last Great Villain
by Matthew Weaver

Matthew joins us this month with a piece on Pierce Dorman. After sketching out Dorman's history on the show, Matthew offers an argument for why Dorman worked while other villains--including those on the show currently--haven't.

Quick Takes: A Few Steps Behind
by Amy McWilliams

This column usually houses a few short notes written by more than one of us, but this month I'm taking it over to make some brief comments about the show at large, touching on each major storyline to let you know what I've been thinking as I've worked to catch up to the rest of you.

Quick Takes

Say Cheese!

There's romance in the air in our video clips this month, as well as the 5th Annual Nurses' Ball. Eve and Ian walk the plank in screen captures, while the scans take a look back at the fall of 1993--and it's not Luke and Laura! Finally, we've got a selection of fall-colored wallpapers this month, including severalr characters that haven't been featured before, or have appearend only in photos with another. Enjoy!

Reader Poll

We're asking you for your favorite family members in our current polls. The family on the spot this month is the Webber: who's your favorite Webber, past or present?

Featured Websites

We're featuring actor sites this time around. First, Matthew included the link to this site in his article, and I liked the site so much I wanted to list it here as well. Tuc-Watkins.com has a beautiful design and lots of goodies on Watkins's work on GH as well as other soaps, shows, and movies.

Next, from Port Charles, Michael Easton has made quite a splash as Michael/Caleb. Here's his official site, which includes material from Michael's complete career.

Finally, the official site of Jim Warren, a photographer who's taken many of your favorite photos of daytime stars. The site includes pix for lots of current GH castmembers. The design loads lots of photos on each page, which takes a while on my slow connection, but the photos are beautiful.

As always, if you would like to recommend a site for recognition in a future issue, you can do so at the feedback form or send us an email.
